After 14 years, the remote on my Heat n Glo fireplace finally gave up the ghost. It had been getting harder and harder to use over time, despite fresh batteries in the remote itself and in the receiver box, and despite tinkering with the screw on the remote. We often had to tap or bang the remote a certain way while holding the on or off button to get it to work.

I bought this device to replace the dead remote/receiver, installed this in minutes last night, and it is working very well. The receiver box on this unit is a plug in, as opposed to the battery powered one I replaced, but I had an unused outlet under the fireplace already so there was no problem with plugging this device in. I'm thinking it will be nicer not to have to change the batteries in the receiver box like I did over the years with the old one.

Looks Cheap when it arrives, but it's quite adorable lit on your window at night. We used tape to attach the scene to the window because what they gave us did not look so stable. But it looked lovely in our window display upstairs, perfect for a typical sized window on a house. We were happy we got it and thanks to the reviews got what we expected.

this is a nice looking nativity, but it's better in/on a window than on a lawn. Besides being rather small (Joseph & Mary are only 2' tall), it's flimsy, so I don't know how anyone could get it to stand up on a lawn, or how you'd get the star to hang above the manger. I even had to tape the two pieces to the window in several spots to keep it stationary.

This is a nice addition to Christmas decorations. It is small enough to fit in our front window, but wish the lights were brighter to shine thru the screens (solar screens can't be removed easily). The star seems brighter since it has all white lights and a simpler outline. Overall, I am happy with it and glad I purchased it.

I cannot get a window unit due to my window size, and this unit came with a window kit that fit my windows. It worked absolutely perfect for 2 months. Then, on a particularly hot day, the bucket filled up with water and the unit shut off. I drained all the water, which is an absolute pain in the rear to do due to the drain being less than half an inch off the floor. The unit leaks water like a faucet ever since, all over the floor. There is really no effective way to use it anymore. I ordered a different brand that doesn't have water leakage issues. I should have listened to all the reviews I read. I practically paid several hundred dollars for a few months use. What a waste. The unit cools great, but what good is that with water all over your carpet? Stay away from this product.

UPDATE: The unit only leaks when moved. If the water reservoir fills up, and must be drained, the unit must be moved to do so because the drain plug is literally right on the floor and there is no pan or container you can get under it. The reservoir will fill eventually, the unit will have to be drained, will have to be moved, will leak. Once all the water leaks out that is going to leak the unit works great until its time to drain again. Like I said, it took 2 months before I had to drain, but this process was a major PIA. I would avoid this unit, but I still gave in another star because it does not leak except during the drainage process.

The best air conditioners are large central units that connect to a whole building HVAC. Since you're reading this review, it's likely that a central unit isn't a possibility for you like it wasn't for me. If you can put in a window unit, that is your next best bet but if that is not practical, you've got to go portable. You could get a nice fan or an air cooler but that's like taking the bus instead of driving. It's really not the same.

I have two portable air conditioners and both are made by Soleus. This is one of them and the other one is a 14,000 BTU unit. This one cools a 166 sq ft room that only needs to be cooled ten to fifteen degrees and it's more than powerful enough for that. It can bring the temperature down in fifteen minutes or so.

Portable air conditioners, until fans, need to have an unsightly and awkward tube connected to the window. These tubes are inevitable flimsy and don't fit well. They seem unacceptable unless the only alternate solution is to suffer in the heat and then suddenly they don't seem bad.

Soleus is perhaps the best portable air conditioner manufacturer. I haven't ever had a non-Soleus unit but I've heard horror stories about others. I've heard bad things about these too but I haven't had anything bad happen.

This is probably the smallest and cheapest good unit on the market so if 8000 BTU is enough for you, this is an excellent bet.

. . . if you're mindful of one limitation: it condenses lots of moisture into a limited capacity container, and will need to be emptied or drained. It's built low to the ground, so I put it up on a little platform and attached the short included plastic hose to the drain port and put a container under it to catch the "drip" (which when it is very hot and humid is really a "stream"!). Recognizing that limitation (discussed in previous reviews), I've avoided any problems and have been quite pleased with the product. It cools well and in my limited basement space where it is used, it does fine.

This works well for the particular conditions in which we're using it. We're happy with it. We live in northern California, where hot weather is usually also dry, and evenings are cooler. We put this in a bedroom that gets very hot during the day and doesn't cool down quickly enough at night. Instead of trying to fit the "window kit" into our old-fashioned window, we just leave the window slightly open with the end of the vent hose sticking out while the unit is running. We run it at bedtime and it cools the room down nicely. I gave it only four stars instead of five because of a couple of design flaws: (1) Though I don't expect that we'll have to deal with emptying the condensation tank much, if at all, it's true that the opening is awfully close to the floor, and I can see that in a more humid environment, where it would need emptying more often, it would be pretty awkward. I don't see why the designers couldn't have put the hole a little higher up so that you could actually get a pan or bowl under it. (2) The instructions said to keep the vent hose as straight as possible, but they put the vent hole at the bottom of the unit too. Most people don't have their windows at floor level, and putting this thing on a table or something would also be awkward, since it's so big and heavy (90 pounds, I think). That said, it works just fine for us sitting on the floor with a 90-degree bend in the hose, so I guess that's not such a big deal.

UPDATE: We've had it for almost a year now and are still satisfied with it. It gets the room nice and cool very quickly, and we have never yet had to empty the condensation tank. So that's not a big problem in a dry climate.

We live in a midcentury apartment building mid 20th century, that is. The building's central air unit has reliably failed during each heat wave we've lived through since moving in. This year, I'd had enough. We ordered the Soleus based on a couple of days of Internet research, and we bought from Amazon for ease of returns if that became necessary. The unit arrived short one panel for the screen-door vent adaptor. We emailed the manufacturerer and they promptly sent not one but two additional panels.

Then we had a few weeks when the building's main A/C was working. But sure enough, another heat wave and the central unit failed. This morning it was 78 degrees in the coolest room of our apartment. We rolled out the Soleus, assembled the vent panel and duct, and turned it on. Fifteen minutes later the room was 75 degrees.

This A/C unit is a bit noisy, but not really worse than the central A/C's fan unit in our apartment. We have the Soleus hooked up in the living room and venting out that patio door. A fan will push the cool air back to us in the bedroom.

78 degrees probably doesn't sound too bad, but when you are 46 and hormonally imbalanced, it's too hot for comfortable sleep. I consider the Soleus a good investment and would add that I was very happy with the fast and courteous handling of our missing-parts request to the manufacturer.

These candle warmer pads work great. You know how the candle never burns evenly and you always have an inchor two of wax left in the bottom, maybe the wick is gone, or the wick has reached the metal and won't light. Put it on the pad and it warms the wax. I have three. But let me tell you, I did not pay $12.99 for them. Thet are really only $3-4 bucks at a craft store like AC Moore, or Michaels. They work great for wax tarts too, just use a left over jar candle that you may have hanging around.

My office will not allow candles being lit anywhere due to fire regulations (even if there are no actual "fire hazards" where the candles would be placed). Also, I have very young grandchildren who would be intrigued by an opn flame. This candle warmer allows me to enjoy the aroma of candles without having to "light" them. It works well for different sized candles. You just need to be sure that the glass your candles is in can be placed on the warming plate. I have had MANY people ask me where I got them (I have several) & they agree that they are really great!

I bought one of these for work. It lives in an office breakroom and gets plenty of use. In this environment, you want the biggest one you can get, or the easiest to refill. 5L is a win. Ease of refill on this unit is so-so if your spigot or whatever can't clear its tall height. It boils, gets to temp, and maintains temp just great. The lid removes for easier fill. Easy to tell how full/empty it is. I like the magnetic power coupling a lot. Has settings for 208, 195, and 175 deg F enough flexibility, although the 175 is a touch hot for green tea. Weakness: the "timer" has only one setting: "off now, and then turn on (to stay) 7 hours from now." This timer is essentially a not-very-funny joke. There is no real time clock, no auto-on, no auto-off. Uses about 50W to keep water hot (the 4L CV-DSC40 is better insulated but more expensive). Has a handle for carrying (even hot & full) and has a built-in turntable underneath. Unit is completely satisfactory and good enough to make me want a better. Also won't go back to traditional kettle.

After reading reviews on several products by Zojirushi as well as other companies, I sought out this particular model as having a particularly large capacity. The viewing window on the side is as simple as it gets for knowing when to fill it up, and it goes from five liters of tap-chilly water to near-boiling in a matter of minutes. The three temperatures are perfect for different applications -208F for black tea, hot chocolate, instant coffee, and filling pots for quick, lazy pasta; 195F for red teas and hardy green teas; and 175F for delicate greens, whites, and most herbals. It's also great for cleaning in the kitchen a bit of nearly boiling water on a paper towel makes stuck on eggs and ground-in floor grime come right up.

Visually, this is a compact, attractive product that can sit right on your counter with your coffee maker and toaster oven. The exterior cleans up easily with a little soap and water, and the cleaning packets that Zojirushi makes get out the built up calcium deposits from hard water simple as pressing a button. Also, unlike many, similar models, this hot water pot has button, rather than pump dispensing, so there are fewer moving parts to break down or catch grease in a kitchen.

My only slight quibble is that the "sleep" mode lasts seven hours, with no ability to program it to be longer or shorter, but it's always nice to wake up to fresh coffee, tea, and oatmeal in the morning.

But I recently measured the energy consumption of it using Kill-A-Watt.

It runs on 830 Watt when it boils water and 87 Watt when it keeps the water warm.

This can be costly if you already reach the so-called Tier-3 electricity usage zone (30%-200% of baseline quantity).

My husband and I bought this water dispenser and we are so happy with it, that we are buying another one. We use ours multiple times a day. If you are a tea drinker or like hot water on hand all the time, THIS IS the hot water dispenser for you. You can hold water temp at 175, 195 or 205, also you can add small amounts of cold water to bring the temperature down for even more fragile green teas. This is a great oil warmer. It looks nice and doesn't use a bulb as the heating mechanism, which means I don't have to worry about replacing one. It also heats up fairly quickly.

Just in case you were wondering about the durability, it is ceramic and will crack if you drop it or it falls off the desk/table/counter (as mine did). However, it still works fine, so this isn't an issue for me.

The one thing I don't like about this warmer is that the power cord is annoyingly short. It is only about 2.5 feet long (maybe less). I wanted to put the warmer on my desk and connect it to the surge protector hidden in the cabinet of my desk, but the cord doesn't even make it halfway there (barely makes it straight to the floor from the edge of the desk). Just make sure that there is an outlet very close to where you want to use this or make sure you have an extension cord available.

I have wasted so much money on candles and last only a while and other expensive plug-ins to try to fill my room with a lasting fragrance. This has finally fixed all of that! I use just a little bit (a couple of drops) of oils or left over perfumes I have around and the room is filled with fragrance within minutes and lasts about 4-5 hours. It's VERY cheap to upkeep and to refill. Will order a second one just in case!

This water heater, which is made in Japan, is slick in design. Although it holds 5 liters of water, it doesn't take as much counter-top space as I expected. It is quiet and efficient. I can choose from three temperature settings that are designed for making tea or cooking instant noodle. I especially like the 6 or 9 hours "sleep timer", which is one of the reason that I purchase this product.

The only thing I wish it would have is a stainless steel interior, but I would still give it a five-star rating.

I purchased my first Tiger hot water dispenser in 1996, at the PX, at Camp Casey, Korea. I have never been withoug a Tiger hot water dispenser since. This model has worked excellent for 4 years now. Absolutely, positively no problems. It's great for a quick cup of instant soup, coffee, or hot chocolate. I never have to wait for room temperature water to come to a boil for cooking. We did a lot of research before buying and am pleased to say these are exceptional for the money. Being that this heater is a duplicate knock off of the Dr. Heater we knew we were getting great heaters. We purchased our 1st one last fall and it's still going strong so decided to add another to combat the rising energy costs. We have electric baseboard heaters and they are too expensive to use. The automatic thermostats are very accurate and the heaters are easy to operate. You do have to let the heater run for a short while to burn off the oil smell. We heat a smaller ranch style home with these 2 and they keep the house at a nice comfy temp. I would recommend these heaters over the higher priced heaters to everyone.

I have had my heater now for a week and it works GREAT. We are toasty warm in our 800 sq ft area downstairs area. upstairs is not bad eaither but will be getting another to put upstairs before the real cold hits. There's not much to say if you own an espresso machine, you need this. Every time the machine boils water, any minerals fall out of solution the harder your water the more minerals resulting in sluggish performance as the heating element now has to heat through "stone". I wanted to write this review to warn everyone out there that this product will stain your granite counter tops. I had no idea. I set the bottle on my black granite and later found a stain in the shape of the ring left behind from the solution. Needless to say that I am totally bummed and saddened that my granite is ruined. If anyone knows how to fix this problem, please let me know!

This is the descaler recommended by my espresso maker. It works well, kind of expensive (well anything would be expensive compared to vinegar and water). I use the discarded solution to soak inside my electric teakettle before discarding so I do get twice the use out of each bottle. Recommend buying in multiple quantities to save on shipping.
