First of all this TV stand is nowhere near the color shown in the picture or in the description. It is actually a very dark mahogany. The description also says solid wood, when in fact the stand is only about 40 percent wood, the rest being MDF and laminate. The assembly was tedious and very time consuming. The biggest problems however were the broken center support, and the fact that the doors rubbed the stand, then would not open at all when we placed our TV on top, even though our TV weighs nowhere near the weight limit in the description. Notified Amazon and they were great. They arranged for the UPS pick-up, and processed my return quickly. I did have to dissassemble and repack the stand of course.

This is a very stylish console and it looks GREAT in our den. But the assembly was nearly a nightmare. After unpacking and beginning assembly, I discovered one part did not have the proper holes drilled in it. Since it was a Saturday, I had to wait until Monday to call customer service. To their credit they sent me the right part and I got it in two days. After finally sorting through the maze of directions, the unit was complete and it was time to put my A/V components in. OOOPS! My A/V receiver would not fit in the front opening. I panicked! I've just spent 4 days putting this console together and now. . .So I had to remove the back panel and put the unit in from the rear and leave the back panel off. Also had some difficulty in putting the other components in as there is a lip around the front so you have to tilt them to get them to fit in. Fortunately they all fit and everything hooked up and I was off and running.

The other issue is the doors blocking the infrared sensors on the components. Depending on where you put your components, and where the sensors are, you may have to leave the doors open to be able to use your remotes.

Overall, nice looking unit, but there are probably better, more user-friendly choices out there.

First the positives: the finished unit looks great and seems much more sturdy than other similar TV stands. I have an old, heavy tube TV on it (no flat panel yet) and it is very steady. I don't see how this product could be considered flimsy unless there were some manufacturing defect. The color matched the photo on Amazon.

As other reviewers have noted, the assembly is time consuming. The instructions in my shipment were actually missing several pages so I printed them out from the manufacturer's web site. I would highly recommend doing this even if your instructions are intact, because it appears that they have revised/updated the assembly instructions, in some cases making it slightly easier.

Technically the shelves are roughly 17" wide, which is just big enough to fit standard sized large components like AV receivers. However, as another reviewer noted, once you have mounted the doors on the front you can't fit 17" wide components from the front any more. The hinges block access to the shelves. I pulled off the back panels and loaded all of my components from the rear. I then got my second surprise, in that two components (a receiver and a CD changer) were also too deep to fit completely on the shelf. They overhang the rear of the stand, especially once cables are connected. I left the back panel off because there was no other choice. We then picked up some heavy fabric from a fabric store, about 1 yard by 2 yards, and tacked that up over the back instead. That was enough to prevent light from a window in our home from shining through the unit (which looked tacky). That worked surprisingly well but took some extra effort.

Finally, the main reason we picked out this particular stand was that a) it had some extra storage drawers and b) everything has a door or drawer on it, which we can put latches on to keep our inquisitive 1 year old son from making "adjustments" to the stereo. If you are buying this for reason b) as well, then be aware that you will have to experiment and maybe modify your latches a little bit. The doors and drawers are flush with the front of the unit, while most latches assume you are working with cabinet doors that close over the front of the cabinet. Again, not a big deal especially, but it consumed some more time to figure out how to mount the latches in this configuration.

If I had it to do over again I would still buy this unit. I can only give it 3 stars though, because of time consuming construction, having to improvise a rear cover, poor fit for stereo components, and having to improvise on child safety latches.

I love that it is not wood composite. Great quality and great price. My husband assembled it wait ease. The TV stand looks very nice.

It arrived earlier than the estimated ship date. It arrived in great condition.

Update. I continue to stand by the quality of this stand. It is currently taking a daily beaten by my 16month old twins. They have caused several the paint to come off in several spots around the base and the edges but that is expected if they are banging their toys into it :-(. However, there are no chips or dents in the wood. It is very strong. I purchased the furniture markers and I will give that a try to touch up the marks or I will buy some black finish.

We ordered this stand because it fit with the traditional decor of our living room. It arrived promptly and I eagerly unpacked it in my garage on a Friday afternoon to have my AV stuff installed that night. (Protip, this thing comes in around 25ish pieces + hardware, all of which will be covered in messy, broken foam.) I laid everything out and lo and behold it was missing one of the two side panels. Not, as you'd expect, a little screw or something, but literally a large, integral part of the assembly.

So I've spent the weekend unable to use my garage. I went down the list of parts to ensure that I had everything else and went to the Walker Edison web site to request the missing piece.

Aaaaand the parts request form link on the first page of the web site is non-functional/404 (query why a company that manufacturers furniture ships so many with missing pieces that a "parts request form" is an integral part of the splash page).

I'll try their email and if they fix this they might get a higher rating when I revise this review.

Update 11/03/12: So after Hurricane Sandy and all that I finally got a chance to assemble this thing. It's a time-consuming pain in the rear. Have some beers first. Now that it is assembled, I note the following: (1) there are a couple chips in the wood I didn't notice before, but I have just run out of patience and can't possibly spend another moment with this thing to send it back :/ ; (2) my older Yamaha receiver is too big I'm going to have to cut the bottom 1/3 off the rear panel to make it fit. Right now I have the doors off because of this; (3) the stand is more red than the photo would leave you to believe; (4) this isn't 100% solid wood; (5) the glass which was well-wrapped and only opened for the first time today, was scratched. My review remains at one star.

Update:11/27/12: the touchup marker they provide in case you scratch the wood doesn't match

In sum: deceptively attractive stock photo belies hours of frustration. Caveat emptor.
