It's lovely to look at, and it does a good job of masking the bricks behind the grate, but I bought this to help throw more heat into the room. Much like an earlier poster, I would almost think that it is somehow preventing heat from entering the room. I don't understand how or why but both my wife and noticed that sitting by the fire wasn't as cozy. I'm not unhappy with the purchase, just not blown away by it.
