I am so glad I bought this. It makes it so much easier to open and close the damper without getting my hands dirty, and it lets me know when the damper is closed, so I don't light a fire. We usually leave it laying on the mantle while the fire is going, and then leave it hanging on the damper lever while the damper is closed.I needed something to tell me whether the damper is open or closed. I use the fireplace so rarely that I can't remember.
