At first, I couldn't decide between this fan and the Lasko 4924. After all, the pictures looked identical and I could not tell the difference. I called the company and they said the 4930 is a newer model, with a remote and a timer. Besides that, it is virtually the same as the 4924. This fan is VERY POWERFUL. It can cool a room instantly and blows a significant amount of air. It blows loose papers around so if using it an office, that paperweight will come in handy! I own several fans, including a Vornado and this is much better than the Vornado (and cheaper). I feel that this blows more air than the Vornado, and the temperature of the air that it blows is cooler. The timer is a great feature, it uses a lot of energy so I always turn the timer on so if I leave the room and forget to turn it off, it turns itself off. The only downside to this fan is that it is rather loud. If you have it in the same room as your TV you will either need to turn the setting on the fan down or turn the TV up. Since this is such a powerful fan, you get a lot of cooling just on the lowest setting. Remember, it is a high velocity blower so I guess the noise is a trade off for the amount of air you have blowing. The recessed handle in the back makes it easier to carry from room to room, and the directional louvres do help direct the flow of air. I recommend it, but the noise can be irritating at times. Other than that, I feel it is the best fan on the market, and the price is very reasonable.

I've been using this fan for over 1 year. Our den has a high ceiling and in the late afternoon the hot summer sun starts heating up the room. Our central AC unit just needs a little help in this room and decided to try this fan after my son had gotten one for his bedroom and said it almost felt like it was a small room AC unit. It has helped keep the den cool until the sun goes down. The remote w/ all of its features is an added bonus. I've recommended this unit to several people and they have agreed. I've read several complaints about the noise. I've keep it generally on the lowest speed and at this speed found no problem but at full speed it is a bit noisy but nothing I can't handle.

Seriously, this thing is a beast. It blows as much as a large, outdoor box fan but is relatively good looking ... for a fan. It stands about waist high and takes up less floor space than a shoebox. The controls are simple on/off, oscillation on/off, speed (3 speeds) and timer (1hr, 2hr, 4hr).

The oscillator swings through about 45 degrees about every 10 seconds. The timer is easy to program, but doesn't give any indication as to how much time is left (i.e., you set it for an hour, it runs an hour, but if you don't know what time you started it, you won't know when it's going to stop). The remote is nice, too, and has exactly the same controls as the top of the unit, itself. There's a small tab in the grill that allows you to "influence" whether the air is blowing "up" or "down." Mostly, I find that the air comes straight out ... the tab is more like a placebo, methinks.

That's all fine and good ... but, let's talk about why we're here to move air, and, oh mama, does this thing move air. At level 1, it provides more airflow than every other comparably sized fan I've tried does at full speed. At level 3, I can clean my entire desk of receipts, notes and other small things not attached in only moments; if I take it outside, I can clean up lawn clippings and, if I aim it just right, I can make a cloudy skies clear up. In other words, the full-speed airflow is AWESOME! Probably too much to use full-speed as a personal fan, but if you need to direct a large amount of airflow or are trying to provide circulation in a large room, this thing does the trick. As others have said, it's loud on high. It's a bit loud on low ... much louder than a ceiling fan (which is nearly silent), slightly louder than a standard desk fan; I'm on the phone ALOT in my home office and usually turn the fan off so that I can hear better on calls. If you want a silent fan, don't buy this one. If you want a fan that'll move ALOT of air, expect noise ... it's physics. So, in that regard, this is an outstanding high-output fan.

I was unsure which Lasko Fan model to purchase Lasko 4934 or the 4930 to purchase. A local news station recommended the 4924 product on their morning show. Thus I thought I would give it a try. I first purchases the Lasko 4924. My intent for the use of this fan was to try to cool off the air of a 2nd floor bedroom in a central air condo. It is just way too hot and central is not cooling off that area very well. I didn't want to put in a window airconditioner so that the only window in the room's view is not blocked by a big old air conditioner. I used the 4924 fan and it seemed to do very well, but just didn't seem to cool quite enough as I would wish in the room. I then went online and reviewed the Lasko Fan Model 4930 with the remote control. It is taller than the 4924 model, which means that the air level from the fan is a little higher off the ground than the 4924 model. Thus if you want air to blow higher up in the room, I would recommend the Lasko 4930. The remote control is a nice feature. But also be aware that the timer options are 1,2 & 4 hours from the time you turn it on. It would be great if the next model would allow the fan to be timed for a part of the day the owner wants then just for those three options. If I had to choose between the two models. I would recommend paying the extra cost for the Lasko Model 4930 because of the timer options and that the air output is higher off the ground which is useful for a larger room. Possibly a good reference if being used in a living or bedroom environment. As for the noise, all fans will have noise based on the fan motor. Since this is a high velocity fan, expect the noise to be louder than a small oscillating desk top fan that one may be used to for a quieter noise. But also air output from that type of fan should be a quieter listenng experience. I am going to keep both models and have them strategically placed in that second floor room to get the central air flowing in tandem. I like that it is plug/unplug and you can move it to any room you like. It is very light to pick up. Hope this review is helpful if you are on the fence of which model to choose.

I read all the great reviews about this fan so I knew I was getting a fan that really blows in a good way :) What really concerned me about the reviews was the complaints about how loud it is. I am actually pleasantly surprised that it's not all that loud, at least not for me. Makes great white noise on low and it's not unbearable on high. I can't comment on longevity since I got this fan today, but I am very happy with the purchase. I'm not sure you can find a tower fan that moves air like this.
