Recieved this item as a gift. We live in Mississippi so using the central heat in our home was draining us considering it cut off and on all the time! This winter all we have done is used this unit in our OPEN living/dinning area and have been kept warm and cozy! The lights provide a calming enviroment and it has proven to be very kid and pet friendly! ( I have 2 kids under 5 and 2 small dogs)...I am purchasing another one for the bedroom so we can have the glow of a fire even if we need no heater. Mine came with remote :) love this item!! Saw significant improvement in electric bill since we only use this and no central heat during day!Our energy bill went from around 300 to 777.00. Did not warm room. May work good in a room that is not open, but not our house. Wish it had, had all kinds of hope
