For the price, this is a very nice mantle:* Well built, the joints and molding are nailed and glued together.
* It is almost all medium-density fiberboard (MDF) with a very thin wood veneer. I do not recommend staining, paint is more appropriate since the corners and puttied areas may not show well through stain.
* Looks great once it is painted.
Bottom line for the money this is a great value. I could not have one made locally of similar quality for this price.
