This in-wall digital timer is definately an upgrade from the old rotary timers I grew up with. However, installation is a little difficult as its size is as large as the common in-wall mounting box leaving very little room for the wires and connectors. I definately recommend this product though if you are confident in installation or are paying someone to install it for you.

My nephew had purchased this same timer switch and I was able to see it in action. I was so impressed that I purchased it shortly thereafter. After the installation I set up the timer and it worked perfectly after that. I use it to turn our front garage coach lights on at dusk and then off at midnight. In reading these reviews, I realize I was lucky to have bought this device -it works with LED bulbs. I have an outside porch lamp with a single 11 Watt LED light bulb installed and this timer works perfectly. From what I understand, a lot of these timers don't function correctly with low wattage LED bulbs. This one does. I also like the fact that you can program this timer to come on/off within 15 minutes of a set time. This really does make your place look "lived in" when you aren't there. There are only two problems I see with this switch... the first is that it has no power back up feature. If you loose your power, you loose your programmed times. The second is that it will not automatically adjust it's on/off times to account for the changing times of the seasons. Both of these problems are addressed with the more expensive timers offered by this and other companies. If this timer addressed these two concerns, it would be perfect. Since it doesn't, I rated it at only four star.2/12/13 Update: First, the good news... The clock seems to maintain time during power outages. The bad news is that once the power is restored, the unit is inoperable as a timer. Yes, that's right, it no longer turns the lights on and off as programmed. The program is still there... but the unit no longer works. As a result of this failure, I'm downgrading my rating to one star. Oh well... it was a good ride while it lasted.

I have used Intermatic timers, both mechanical and electronic, for over 20 years and have always been very satisfied with their performance and the compact designs of their electronic timers. In purchasing this product, I was looking to replace an old electronic timer that had died with one that could handle CFLs. After hooking up all four wires with the wire nuts provided, I found that the switch (and the connectors with wire nuts) would not fit in the standard metal electrical box that is installed in my 43-year old house. The switch was too deep. The dimensions provided in the product description on Amazon and on the manufacturer's site were incorrect and misleading. When I called Intermatic, their Customer Support people, though polite, neither apologized for the incorrect specification, nor did they attempt to help with the situation. Since I had made an attempt to install the product already, the product could not be returned. I am stuck without a suitable timer that has the features advertised for this product.
