The unit does just what the manufacturer says it does. You will love it. Completes the entire fireplace with a functional heater for the whole living room. A bit pricey but well worth it. Easy to install.

Seems to work fine; it is a little loud. Even on the lowest setting you can't hear the fan but it vibrates enough to resonate in the fireplace shell even with the magentic feet. My fireplace was wired reverse to what the manual on this suggested. I couldn't get the product to work until I wired the fireplace exactly as the manual with the fan watned it. Who ever installed my fireplace reversed some wires; I'm assuming the esc fan is monitroing the voltage across the two terminals and mine must have been oppiste it was expecting. Other than that its simple to install.

This is the only one nice contemporary European looking heater made in USA.

I was searching for heaters on-line since 2006, when I bought a house, and all the heaters available at Home Depot and Lowes are ugly baseboards with 300 years-old look. I understand, I am in Queen's New England, old-fashion area, but even on-line it was nothing.

Later I found Canadian Stelpro SC "Electronic Convectors", but they are expensive. I install them on my second floor.

This season I was going to buy a few more for my first floor and I did search again and I found this Dimplex heaters.

I was really surprised that it's American! Finally! Some progress in America!

I installed them (it's really easy) and I am using my programmable thermostat and external relays to control them. I simply set heater's thermostat to max.

It's been a month since and I am really pleased with look and performance. Quiet, fast, nice.

Thanks Dimplex!

Not a great review.

Mine broke within the first few hours. The thermal cutoff switch kept tripping. Everything checked out (airflow, clearance, voltage, etc), so we suspected it was just a defective/too sensitive thermal cutoff switch (cutting out at too low of a temp).

Unfortunately, my research could not find any available parts. Called Dimplex, and they confirmed the defect and advised returning to Amazon (thanks Amazon for easy return!). Dimplex also confirmed that they don't make parts available for the heater and don't have a service center available to repair. Ie, this is a throw away heater series.

Glad I realized this now, while I could still return and buy another brand. Would have been really upset to learn this 5 yrs from now when something else broke.

My research showed that StelPro models come with parts list and parts are available through them, at least. I'm ordering one of those (too bad Amazon doesn't carry...).

Also note the unit seems nice, had it worked. But it does sit off the wall more than the pictures seemed to me.

Also, mine said made in France. Not USA as another post stated.

Good luck!

I purchased a dual-zone King sized Chilipad about 1 1/2 years ago. Previously I would often waking up sweating at night, even if the room was cool. The Chilipad has helped significantly. I generally sleep cooler, and wake up less.

Unfortunately, this a great idea in need of some further engineering and refinement, and I am not so happy with the quality. After 1 1/2 years of use, here are my observations:

-The pad never quite gets as cool as I would like. After a couple of hours, its noticeably cool. But I wish it would get a bit cooler. Sometimes when the room is too warm, the unit cant keep up and I still wake up hot.

-The lights and controls on the cooling units need to be thought out better. I would be much happier with a simple on/off switch for maximum cooling... without the bright lights and the loud beeping. The lights on the top of the cooling units are extremely bright; I have to place a shoe or something on top of each unit in order to darken the room. The unit beeps quite loudly every time you turn it on or make an adjustment, which is distracting if someone else is already in bed sleeping. To set the unit for cooling, you have to first push the on button, which beeps loudly, then hold down the temp button for a few moments til you get to the lowest temp, and then you can finally set the temp. Its an unnecessarily long and loud process. If the unit is bumped when its running then it shuts down and resets, and you have to go through all the button pushing and beeping again.

-My pad recently developed a leak, which caused a big wet spot to form. I spoke to Becky in their customer service department, and she said that LEAKS are NOT covered under their "2 year warranty". She says that if it develops a leak, even under normal use and during the warranty period, you have to pay $90 for a new pad. So I paid the $90.

-One of my two cooling units recently stopped cooling. It would power on... bright lights, loud beeping and everything... but it would not cool. As a result, one half of the pad would not work. I had to ship the cooling unit back to them for a repair, which was completed promptly and it works fine now.

I hope they re-design this product in the future and fix some of these issues. When its working right, its pretty good. In spite of my frustrations with it, I would probably buy it again. I think it has the potential to be a great item if they come out with a higher quality version.

I have been using the chili pad for about a week now, after reading a pretty good review on gizmodo I decided to give it a try.

It advertises itself as being able to reach a temperature as low as 46 F, the lowest It's gone is around 59, which would be fair if it didn't go up to 70 as soon as you lie down on it, and it takes around 2 hours for the thing to reach this temperature. So you can forget about turning it on as soon as you lie down. This is on an Air conditioned room at around 67 F.

I called the company and they told me that to use a really thick blanket to trap the air. I was already doing that. They also told me to make sure that the control unit had at least 24 inches on all sides of cleared space, which it did since I actually read the manual.

What made me a little angry was the Rep's attitude towards me. After I told her I had tried all of those tips, she instantly told me that they offer a 90 day money back guarantee. I kept telling her that I just wanted to see if I didn't have a faulty unit since some reviews on amazon stated that the unit worked pretty well and cooled really fast (including the gizmodo review), and again she insisted on the money back guarantee. I mean, I want to like the product and give it a fair chance but she assured me that it's working correctly even though its performance is sub-par.

So I have mixed feelings about this. If it would get near the temp its advertised to reach (46) quickly and maintained it, then I would rate it 5 stars immediately, but since the rep told me that my unit was working correctly without even attempting to troubleshoot it somehow or ask me to send it back, then it gets only 2 stars from me.

It's a very expensive product, at the very least I would expect decent customer service. I didn't get this for pleasure either, I got this for my mom who experiences hot flashes and can't sleep well at night.

Since there are no videos of this thing on youtube, i'm thinking of creating a video to film the Temp indicator and show that the whole setup is done according to the manual and demonstrate how long it takes to cool and how it does not reach the advertised temperature. I will update it when I have it.

Let me start by saying, yes, I understand it's expensive, HOWEVER, in the 2 months I've had it, my heating bill is already lower, and I can see that with winter and summer heating bill savings, it will end up paying for itself.

The temperature control is fantastic!!! If your body heats up at night, the chili-pad will cool you down, and if you cool off, it will heat you up. It will heat or cool to the temperature you set it too, so you stay comfortable all night!

I really LOVE the dual zone. I sleep at 73degrees (winter temperature), and my girlfriend sleeps at 80. We both sleep ALL night in a deep, restful sleep. Both of us can set our own temperature to whatever makes us comfortable.

Review I read before I bought this product talked about the 'noise' made by the fan from the control unit.

After turning both sides on, I could not believe that anyone would complain about it. It's barely even a whisper!! I put the two control units at the foot of my bed, and it sounds like a small fan on in an adjacent room. There is a separate remote for each side, so you don't even have to get out of bet to turn it up, down, off, or set the sleep timer.

They say to use distilled water, and it holds a surprisingly small amount of water. You have to top the water off about every 2 weeks or so.

My dog and cat also sleep on the bed. I was slightly concerned about what their claws could do, but I turns out that the tubing is well protected inside the chili-pad so no worries about the pets!

This product has FAR surpassed my expectations!!! I work nights, so I can't wait to see how cool it keeps me in the summer, while I sleep during the day! I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a better more restful sleep!!!!

I have also owned my Chilipad for a year. Based on my experience, I would say the other reviews so far are accurate.

PROS

Definitely cools the mattress. The area under the sleeper still heats up but you can roll over and find a cooler spot.

Cooler sleep temp allows the user to run ambient AC slightly warmer and save on cooling costs.

Can work as a heating pad too.

Pad can be washed.

CONS

Noisy (about the noise level of an ocillating fan).

Bright control unit lights, which can be irritating in a dark room.

Works better when new, cools less efficiently as it gets older. Cooling temp never reaches as low as advertised. Lowest temp depends on ambient air temp might not get below 70 in a very warm room.

Weird pressure points, you can definitely feel the tubes inside the pad.

Bottom line: It did not eliminate my insomnia and night sweats but did reduce their intensity. I recommend combining the Chilipad with a cooling pillow for maximum effectiveness. Would I buy this again knowing what I know now? It's expensive, but yes, probably.

I bought this product less than a year ago and was stunned to find that it was leaking badly. Had I not encased my very expensive new mattress in plastic as I did when I first purchased it a year ago, my new mattress would be ruined and full of mold. That's a lot of loss to bear for any consumer. Most people do not use plastic around their mattresses, so for most people, having a product leak like this, could be catastrophic. I sleep alone and don't do gymnastics on my bed. No pets have access to my bedroom. I have treated this product with kid gloves from day one (I did not even wash it when it first arrived for fear of damaging the tubing). I even use a mattress pad over the Chilipad just to give myself added protection between myself and this extremely expensive product. I am well under the weight limit and can't think of any reason whatsoever that would make this product leak.

Like most people, I do not wash my mattress pad as often as I do my sheets, so there was no way to pinpoint when this started. It may have been leaking all along to some degree, and I just didn't notice it as the mattress pad on top of it was absorbing it until it began leaking badly enough to seep through and leave everything wet. I was horrified as I took apart all my bedding and found that everything was wet beneath me (including another protective sheet I had around the plastic that encases my mattress)! The plastic around my mattress was wet and that means that my new mattress would have been destroyed had I not had it encased in plastic, and after experiencing their customer service, I would have been left to my own devices for that as well!

They do not cover leakage of their own product! What good is a warranty if it does not cover any leaks, which is a huge issue! After reading some of the other reviews regarding this exact same issue, I am truly horrified that they force us to buy a new pad! Because my mattress has memory foam inside, and becomes insufferably hot, I felt hostage to having to shell out the money or live with the heat (and lose the huge investment I made in purchasing this unit). I paid nearly $700.00 for this contraption and they leave you on your own if it leaks! That's ludicrous!

The icing on the cake was the mold that had been slowly growing all over this pad that I have owned for less than a year and was extremely careful with! There is nothing acceptable about this situation as it is a serious health hazard, and after reading other reviews with people stating that they are having the exact same issue as well, the company should have already gone back to the drawing board by now and rectified this issue (as well as cheerfully refunding the people who have had this problem, sending them a new pad for free, and praying that they don't sue)! God only knows what laying on this mold has done to my health! They act as if it's a mere inconvenience and have the audacity to ask you to pay for a new pad!

The above is my personal opinion on this product. I would not recommend it under these circumstances. Condensation is one thing, but this kind of leakage can actually be dangerous. Either reinforce these pads with safer enclosures or use tougher, flexible, silicone in place of what is currently being used (better still-do both). This should have been fully covered, (and with this many people complaining about leaks, they should have already gone back to the drawing board on this).

I bought this electric kettle after my stove top kettle needed replacement. It is great -it boils water very quickly and turns itself off automatically which is a great safety feature. I did a lot of research before I purchased this model, I highly recommend this one -it gets good reviews and there is no plastic inside the kettle -many of the others have plastic viewers that are immersed in the hot water, I did not want my hot water in contact with plastic. I haven't found any negative aspects to this kettle and have been using it daily for over three months.

I have always used a stove top kettle, so I was leery to try out an electric kettle. When I received the product it was easy to get going. The first time I filled the entire kettle with cold water and boiled it through. It boiled very quickly and the automatic shut off worked great!

One of the reasons I tried an electric kettle is because I could never find a stove top kettle that poured smooth and didn't run all over the counter. This product pours smoother than anything I have found and doesn't agitate the tea bag.

Over all this is a great product and I would recommend this to anyone.

As one who constantly burned up traditional kettles, I liked the idea of electric kettles that shut themselves off. My first one was plastic-with the heating element in the water. While I closer to the concept, it was not really what I wanted. I saw this kettle design and I love it. It is stainless steel, and the heating element is in the pad below and not in the water itself. It heats quickly, and shuts itself off. The stainless keeps the temperatures warm for qute some time after shutting off. So, even if I do not catch it right away, the water is usually still hot by the time I want to use it. It looks attractive sitting on the counter, and is easy to keep clean.

Would definitely buy another!!

After I received the Brentwood Kettle I noticed the underside of the box had a WARNING: Made with HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS. The warning was not only on the bottom of the box but it was also concealed by a barcode sticker! This warning should have been advertised more clearly. I then became concerned that the plastic lid that is exposed to the hot water interior of the kettle was made with toxic plastic. I called Brentwood up and asked if the plastic used was BPA-free? The customer service told me that NO it was NOT BPA FREE! So please people do your research and always call the manufacturers when you have any doubts. Corporations often don't care about the safety of their products for the consumer and will often cut corners at the public's expense. Of course in a perfect world these corporations would be more highly regulated and suffer more severe punishment than just paying fines. It is actually quite evil that they can make decisions to poison the consumer just to make a buck.

BPA PLASTIC is known to release TOXINS when exposed to high temperatures and these corporations know this. Don't buy toxic products from corporations that bite the hand that feeds them.

Help make this a better world by demanding these corporations comply by honoring and respecting the people who buy their products by making them safe and toxin free. If these corporations want to be treated by law as individual citizens then they should suffer the same punishment that an individual would if caught intentionally poisoning someone.

We need a world driven by benevolence not cold corporations.

I returned this kettle and bought Hampton Beach's instead. Two key features no one had mentioned that were dealbreakers:

1. It took 12 minutes to boil the full pot from tepid tap water. My stove top tea kettle takes the same amount of time.

2. You can't see the water level from the outside.

I liked the looks of this fan, read the other reviews and decided to try it. The fan is not noisy at all which is what I wanted because I watch TV in the room it is in. But I also wanted it to cool the room quickly. The ionizer is plus because it also takes care of the smells from the kitchen that carry into this room. The remote is a plus! Easy to assemble, easy to use, has a remote, is quite, and helps with odors.

The LASKO 42-INCH WIND CURVE tower fan is a good, reliable fan that does an excellent job cooling our large family room. The recent heat wave (still going on here in Maryland) sent me in search of a fan to supplement our air conditioning and ceiling fan. After reading tons of reviews here on Amazon, I settled on this one and so far I'm pleased.

Pros:

1) The fan comes assembled only the base needs to be attached (you'll need a Phillips-head screwdriver). I had no trouble getting the two halves of the base to fit together, and then attaching it to the fan itself. The instructions are clear. No problems at all.

2) Operating the fan is easy whether with the remote control (included) or by using the buttons on the top of the fan. You will need to pick up two AAA batteries for the remote. The buttons are coded with icons to make it easy to turn on the fan, switch speeds, and add oscillation or the ionizer feature.

3) Great job circulating air, with or without using oscillation -when combined with the ceiling fan in our family room, it really does feel like we're surrounded with comfortable spring breezes!

4) Very, very quiet in fact, it's much quieter than the little $20 fans we've placed around the room in the past to circulate the air. I hardly notice that it's on at all.

Cons:

1) It's a bit large and a tad top-heavy the base is light-weight plastic, which makes the fan seem a bit top-heavy, especially on thick carpet. So far, we haven't had a problem with this, but I could see it falling over easily if someone bumped into it.

2) Oscillation range is fairly small -it works fine for two people sitting on the sofa watching TV, but it isn't a wide enough range to effectively reach an entire room full of people. It works for us, since it's usually just my husband and myself. But if you're looking for something that oscillates from one side of the room to the other, this might not be the fan for you.

That's about it if you're looking for a good fan for a reasonable price, I suggest ordering one of these. It's classy-looking too!

Buy Lasko #2554 42-Inch Wind Curve Fan with Remote Now

One of the other reviewers mentioned that this fan's remote only works if you aim the remote directly at the fan and that you aren't too far away. Wow, were they ever right. You have to aim the remote dead on to the sensor to get it to work, often times pushing the button several times before it does work. We've moved the fan now so that it is past the foot of the bed and I can't use the remote anymore. The fan is too far away. If I want to use the remote in bed, I have to slide all the way to the bottom corner of the bed, lean forward and aim the remote directly at the fan's sensor. It's not worth it anymore, now I just get out of bed to turn it on and off. Kind of defeats the purpose of having the remote.

Now, the pros is that it looks great, the sound is even and on the quieter side (but we like the white noise when we sleep), and fairly powerful air movement. You can direct the air pretty accurately. I still feel a great breeze even though it is kinda far away from the bed.

The ION feature is really nice and even seems to cool the air in addition to filtering it.

Another note: the "ION" light is REALLY bright. It was like having a nightlight in our bedroom. Additionally, the plastic cover that goes over the light and indicator panel is kind of transparent, so when I tried covering the light with electrical tape I realized the light isn't just coming out of the "light hole," it's also coming out most of the transparent plastic cover too, which is kinda large. I ended up having to cover about half of the indicator panel with electrical tape and I can still see the light. I wish it would just go off after a certain period of being on, but no such luck. I'm sure me having to use that much electrical tape (which fortunately blends in well) doesn't help the remote sensor issue.

I purchased this fan because my sister got one first. It was great! The fan is extremely quiet and pushed plenty of air. Best of all is the tallness of the fan. It circulates a greater amount of air, keeping our living room much cooler. I have not used the ionizer, but if you are looking for a great quality fan, look no further.

Want Lasko #2554 42-Inch Wind Curve Fan with Remote Discount?

We have only had this fan now for about a week. I will come back and update my review as time passes, but I wanted to get some info out there.

I have a toddler and an infant.

Why I was not looking for a fan with blades:

Fans with blades can be a danger, but so can the heat, so I decided on a tower style fan for our rather small apartment. Standing fans we have had in the past were easily tipped and the front metal plate or sometimes plastic was quick to pop off as it hit the floor blade still going strong. Very scary when your child is just 2 and has tipped the fan.

My experience so far:

*auto shut off

The first day I was quite worried as the fan had tipped (my husband the larger child in the home was playing with it) and it would not turn back on. I became very worried. I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Sure enough this fan has a safety so that if it is tipped it will turn off.

*durability

So far the baby has tackled it with his 26lb body and it has held up. It is just tall enough that my toddler can't yet push the buttons.

*noise

I didn't really care if the fan was quiet or not, but it was an added bonus that it is very quiet compared to our Lasko box fan. If you aren't looking at the fan you would never know that it is rotating. Also make sure you get the screws in the right place. The diagram is poorly labeled. That may be the problem with some of the fans people are having noise with. There are more holes than there are screws and the diagram suggests that they go into holes that they really don't belong in. I will include a picture of the base so you can see.

*cooling factor

I was disappointed with the amount of air that it moved, and had I reviewed it on day 1 I would have only given it a 3 stars for that, but I have come to realize that while the air it moves isn't much, the air always blows out cool.

I find that on hot humid summer days some fans are just blowing around the hot air. I was surprised to find that this fan seems to always have cool air. No idea how but it does.

It also does a much better job cooling a room if you always have it on rotate. If not the air just kind of stagnates.

*packaging

I was very worried when it arrived as it was in the thin box the fan comes in rather than amazon packaging. It already had holes in it. I will be reviewing in my order the packaging as well and I suggest others do the same so they start packing it better.

*ion thing

Tried it doesn't seem to change anything other than a blue light comes on. I have no idea what it actually does. Again bought this fan for safety reasons.

*overall

I am pleased and hope to buy another when funds allow.

Update: It has been about a month now and while my toddler has tackled this fan with his full body weight it is still fully functioning. It has only actually crashed once of the many times hitting wood laminate floors. Now that the weather is warmer it is still blowing cooler air than any other fan in our home.

Update: One year later; it is still running great and quietly. The toddler has finally stopped tackling it, but it has survived several falls over the year.

The entertainment center is well built (quality wood pieces) and relatively easy to put together. It is also a very attractive piece of furniture. The reason I am only giving it a 4 star rating instead of a 5 is due to the side cabinet doors are open wood with no glass (which would have made it a much more attractive piece of furniture) and that the electric fire place was only "gold tone" fire flames and not very realistic looking. The fan on the electric fireplace was also quite loud and distracting. We replaced the electric fireplace with a 23" Spectra fireplace and added glass to the side doors and now we have the entertainment center we were looking for.

This mantle is a beautiful dark oak with cherry undertones. The flames are realistic, and the logs look nice when the fireplace is on or off. You can feel the quiet heater blowing from a distance; it blows down and away. The reflected logs give the illusion of the flames dancing in the middle of a random pile of logs. Ember bed glows and pulsates. Assembled in minutes with a phillips screwdriver, and I am not that handy. Solid, beautiful, heats the room. Very satisfied.
