Great for fondueheat coming from the bottom and sides of the crock does a better job of keeping dips warm than a pot with the heat source on the bottom only. Compact so that it doesn't take up too much space on the table. Despite the fact that this product is made for keeping dips warm, I love it for cooking. I use it every night to cook a serving of steel-cut oats for the next morning. I just set it on a timer, have it come on at midnite and shut off at 6am, add 1/3 cup oats, a pinch of salt, cinnamon and a cup of water, and voilá, breakfast is ready when I get up. I was hosting a gathering where I needed to keep gravy warm for biscuits and mashed potatoes. I have a two quart slow cooker that is fairly small compared to a typical five six quart pot. The two quart cooker still seemed a bit large for use as a gravy warmer. I found this 16 ounce little dipper at my local grocery and it seemed perfect. I thought it would be great for gravies, sauces, and dips. I also thought it might work for side dishes like corn or soup. Alas, this was not the case.

I would definitely recommend this product if you are adept at assembly. Pack your patience and inspect each piece BEFORE beginning assembly because if you have a defected piece as I did, it will take a couple weeks to get the replacement. Purchased in winter of 2009. I use to heat my insulated 20x17 garage, while I work on my vehicles or tinker with projects. It does a fine job. It takes about an hour or so to get the whole garage comfortable(65 degrees). I turn it on the 1500W setting to get up to the set temp, then turn down to 1300W setting and it kicks on and off to keep the temperature where it should be. If you're looking for a unit to keep a garage at a very warm temp(above 72 degrees)or warmer, you better have an unbelievebly well insulated area, and you definately need to spend more than $20. I purchased this heater about 5 months ago before it started getting cold. Once the cold set in I started using this unit and and the first few weeks were fine. About 4 weeks into using the heater it started turning off by itself and turning on again minutes later. I thought I already rated this but for some reason I guess I didn't. I would definitely recommend this fireplace. It was a good price compared to the others. It's made of real hard wood not particle board. The boards are all labeled and even tell you how to orient them. I built this in about 1 hour or so. It's very high quality. Once built, it looks beautiful in our living room. Before buying this we compared the electric ones. The electric ones are ok but they looked cheesy sometimes. Plus they seem to run anywhere from a few hundred dollars to over a $1,000.00. This thing gives you a real fire! The draw back is that it costs more than electricity but you are not using it for heat, you are using it for beauty. So you can just place large candles on a pedestal and it will also give you the appearance of flame and you can use the gel candles on a cool night or when guests are over. Like the fireplace = pretty easy to assemble but not everything lined up perfectly and since I know about the "flaws" can't help but notice them everytime.. Within less than a year, this item has heating elements that no longer work, leaving many cold spots in the bed. This heating pad is GREAT! You can feel the coils a bit if you just use it alone, but if you put another mattress pad over it, you can't feel anything besides the plug connection at the bottom, and that is not bad. AS for the heat, it is great for taking the edge off a cold bed before you go to sleep, and keeps the bed nice and warm without being hot!. I would recommend it to anyone. Controls are very easy to use and it is easy to set up. The dual controls are great since my wife likes it quite warm, but I like to turn it off after getting into bed.The only complaint is the wires are quite noticeable.

I'm sorry to hear that the previous reviewer didn't like it, but I have one that I also bought at Lowes and I think it's great. We have it in our VERY large, 550 square foot family room, and it warms up the place nicely within a 10 minutes. Now, mind you, I have central heat, but that room is always colder than the rest of the house, due to it's size and the number of windows, and I bought it to warm it up more since I have a baby daughter who likes to crawl on the carpet where it's coldest. I bought this at Lowe's, for the same price at amazon to hold me over until my central heating gets turned on. I live in an older house probably 1950's design with cinder-block outer walls, a tile floor in my living room and poor insulation so take that into account with this review. This heater is small about two feet tall and says rated for medium size rooms on the box. When first turned on there was a strong plastic smell but it dissipated after about 10 minutes. I currently have this in my small/medium living room and have to this about 3 feet away from me as the fan blows really low. I feel warmer but only enough to take the edge off, not freezing, but not entirely comfortable. With the built-in fan its as loud as a medium oscillating fan. Don't buy this heater. I'm not sure I'd buy another sunbeam product actually. Just like the other reviews, my heater worked for a while and then started shutting off while the light around the temperature adjustment would flash. If you move the unit it may or may not come back on. The temperature display sometimes comes on and sometimes it doesn't. It lasted one short season and after that, its been nothing but a headache. I was not optimistic when I bought this product. We bought a house with 30+ years of soot build up on the front of the fireplace and based on the other reviews, I figured this wasn't going to work on that much of a mess. It was cheap, so I went ahead and bought it. It shipped that day and I had it the next! I immediately tried using it and it's like a miracle eraser. I LOVE IT! I make one swipe and all the soot comes off! It's seriously awesome. Bought this heater for our office spaces and these work so well! The heat coverage is great and it's a very simple, non complicated heater so the functions are simple, hi or low and fan. Temperatures are adjustable and simple dial too. The sound doesn't bother me or my coworkers, it's not that loud, you can hear it but it's not annoying or causing an increase in speaking volume. Someone said it's as loud as a hair dryer -that is inaccurate and over exaggerated. It's a calming background noise. I've had this heater for almost 2 years. It is great as a bedroom heater and very quiet. My only issue with it is that if you turn it on and don't set the temperature it defaults to turning the heating element on constantly until you make an adjustment or turn it off. I feel like this is a dangerous default operation and that it should default to having the thermostat set at the last temperature that you used (e.g. turn it on and it's already set for 68 degrees instead of in FULL ON mode). This heater was purchased for $ through Amazon ()and meets our expectations. We live in Orlando, Florida and purchased this heater to keep the master bedroom warm at night so we do not have to turn on the heat pump and heat a two story house with 3,300 square feet. Our average electric bill is always over $300 a month and this heater is a money saver! The bedroom is 13'X20'; we close the doors to the hall and bathroom and the unit works well. Since the heater's digital temperature gauge is within inches of the heat source one must set the thermostat 2 to 3 degrees above what you want the room temperature to be. The unit turns on 1 degree below where it is set and off at 2 degrees above set point. It is very quiet since there are no moving parts. It has a long electrical cord a good thing since you cannot use an extension cord with it. While we seldom get very cold temperatures in Orlando the heater performs well when it is in the 30's outside. Often we turn on the ceiling fan on low and it makes the room a uniform temperature without any cold spots. Bought 2 one for the dining room (3 parrots live there, no dining allowed) and one for my 14x16 bedroom. Both are crazy-quiet, and warm a room quickly. It's not a dry heat like a fan-based heater puts out, but a general warmth that I assume is the convection heat doing its thing. I leave both unattended at night, and the one in the dining room runs constantly no worries as it's not a hot-heat, and is made very well.

I bought this for my 20'x20' semi-insulated attached garage in Wisconsin. It cranks out some heat, but not enough to realistically heat that garage in the winter unless it runs ALL the time. Nicely built unit, VERY simple, basically a coil, fan, and thermostat. There is nothing else inside this thing. When I turned this unit on, and placed it next to my existing 120V 1500W fan heater ($10 type model), I had to check several times because I didn't even think the 1500w heater was turned on! This unit cranks out some heat for it's size. It's basically the size of two shoeboxes taped together, or maybe a pice of paper, it's very small.
