This is a great desk for a small space, and works perfectly in the corner of the living room of my 1br apartment. It's sturdy and stylish, with inside room for my laptop on one side and a pile of papers on the other. The fold-down top makes a very sturdy surface on which to type (I have a somewhat heavy hand on the keyboard). I use the laptop with a flat-panel monitor on top and a wireless keyboard/mouse combo (that stores on top of the laptop when the desk is closed). I set up my screen saver as a slideshow of photos so that when the screen saver is on, the monitor on top of the desk acts like one of those digital photo frames. If I have any complaints, it's the accessibility of the drawer when the desk top is open -it can be reached by lifting the keyboard shelf/lid but it's difficult, and best reached when the desk is fully closed up.

The first desk I ordered was delivered with a lot of damage. It had obviously been dropped somewhere, because when it arrived the top of the desk was in pieces.I sent it back to Amazon directly and the customer service was great, we got the problem resolved and the only issue was the extra wait for the new item and having to re-box a large bulky item and ship it back to Amazon.
The desk that was shipped to me next came in good condition. Assembly was simple, bolt the four legs to the desk. Everything else is pre-assembled.
The fasteners, and hardware are pretty good quality, the unit is solid and the legs are even, but as far as the quality goes...it's still mostly press board (if not all, it's hard to tell).
The Chinese have figured out a way to give a real-wood patina to this stuff, so when you look at it there is grain on the surface and it looks nice. But the unit that came damaged had the surface broken, and I could see that it was all "composite" wood. So if you buy this, you can expect a "solid" desk, just don't expect real wood.
Overall though, it's a good looking desk that serves my laptop needs.This desk exceeded my expectations. It was easy to assemble and is very sturdy and solid. The design allows a chair to move freely in every direction. When it's closed it doesn't take up much space. It's solid, versatile, and well-designed. Don't expect high quality wood, but it looks presentable.

I ordered this heater for my parents who were taking a 6 week trip to Europe. My mum LOVED it! None of the hotels she stayed in had a jug to heat water so she used it almost daily. I've owned two of these. The first one I dropped and it stopped working. Ok, my fault. The second I heated 4 cups of water on an international trip (220 Volt) and was very careful with it, especially keeping the heating coil immersed while plugged into the electricity. I went to heat a 5th cup of water and guess what?....no longer working. I bought it especially for the international voltage feature. I read reviews that said it did not work and I still took my chances and ordered the water heater at ALSAMAUSA and hoped it will work for me but sure enough the water heater was dead on arrival. I used immersion heater before and I know how to follow instructions so that it was definitely DOA. I returned the item but wasted my money for shipping and return postage ($5.70+$5.41). The seller received my water heater few days ago and I'm still waiting for my refund. What a wast of time and money.UPDATE: I filed A-to-z Guarantee claim to Amazon and they refunded the item price and shipping so that my loss was limited to the cost for the return shipping (postage + certified mail = $5.41).

My unit quit working mid-tea cup heating, and I was dissatisfied because I thought I had only had it about six months. Amazon showed me that I received it about 25 months ago. Use was generally light, mainly onboard cruise ships, with both 110 and 220 volts used. Owned and used a bit over two years, but probably not over about 150 times, although the unit has likely traveled 50,000 miles and suffered a few light knocks, but no rough handling.
Performance and calendar service life = Five stars. Roughly 150 uses until failure = Three stars.
OVERALL: Four Stars. Will buy again.

I purchased this to provide a bit of warmth while working in my uninsulated northern garage. I liked the very utilitarian appearance and have had good experience with the Patton brand. Unfortunately this unit just does not have enough output to be noticed in such an environment. The small, single-speed fan just does not move the heated air far enough away from the unit; to get any benefit from it I have to be right on top of it. I never expected it to heat the whole garage but I did expect it to provide some noticeable warming in a few foot radius. This it does not do. If you have a very small space that will contain the heated air better, you might find it acceptable. But generally I would advise looking for a larger-diameter blower with at least two speed settings.

I bought two of these in the same order and neither one of them worked properly. The threaded fittings were loose, making the fit of the two pieces wobbly. Eventually, they both just fell apart. Woodland Direct was really good to deal with and has agreed to refund my money without making me mail the things back. I wish I could say who does make a good blow poke these days, but I am still searching. Too bad Plow and Hearth changed their design. The blow poker looks good and the "blow" function really helps get a fire going. It ships in 2 pieces with a threaded connection between the lower tube and the handle/mouthpiece. This is a weak point, both in terms of manufacturing tolerances and strength of the poker. We had to replace the first one, which came with the threads stripped. Minuteman was great about doing the replacement no objections and fast service, and the second one fits together snugly. However it will never be a heavy duty poker: neither the thickness of the steel tubing nor the threaded connection are designed for use as a lever on big logs.To be fair, it isn't priced like a heavy duty unit either. So, as a moderately priced unit for the weekend fireplace user, it's fine.

I don't understand. I just opened these gel fuel cans last night and placed them in a fire bowl lava rock thing I am making and I lit one just to test it and it worked. I uncovered all 6 and placed them where I wanted them. I had only lit one briefly as a test and then today I tried to light all of them and they don't work? Item does not fit the Bird Brain Firepot and requires an adapter which the Firepot did not explain, nor did the gel until I got it out and found it doesn't fit. Does not fit into our 2.5" Firepot. The neck tapers so canister does not fit. Gel does not stay lit. Fizzles out in 30 seconds then need to re-light and re-light, etc. This stuff is HORRIBLE!!!! Hopefully they will be able to bring back pourable gel.

It looks amazingly like a real wood fire in our fireplace. It's easy to install, as long as your fire box is big enough, and you have a nearby electrical outlet. This "deluxe" model DFI2310 differs from the standard model DFI2309 by having a larger, brighter, even more realistic flame, for a somewhat higher price. The heaters can be turned off completely, for when it's warm, but you want that cozy fireplace ambiance.
On the "needs improvement" end, the remote control only turns the insert on and off; it does not control the optional heating elements, which can only be turned on or off at the unit itself. Mine arrived with all switches "on" so I got heat as soon as it was plugged in. It would be better to ship with all switches set to "off."
Also, there's no crackle or pop sound, so if wood fire sounds are important to you, this is not the electrical insert for you. However, if crackles and pops aren't that important to you, and you're looking for a very realistic looking, reasonably-priced unit with heating options, this is one well worth considering.

I'm writing this review because of how helpful I found other reviews before buying this fireplace. I did my homework, reading some 150+ reviews and watching Youtube videos of people's Dimplex fireplaces, before deciding on this model and it paid off! This is probably the best electric fireplace out there for the money (if there's a better one I can't afford it anyway!) I very happy with it and everyone who comes to my house thinks it looks very real (they all knew I bought a fake one so I'm still waiting to "fool" someone who doesn't know!) CSN (the company that provides the fireplace) has the BEST customer service dept to call. Whenever I called, I got someone different and they were ALL very nice and helpful.The fireplace flames look as real as you can get, so real sometimes you think you hear crackling! It does make a slight whirring kind of sound (motor?) but you can only hear it in a quiet room (no TV, etc) and only if you're really listening for it. But it is an electric product so I guess you can expect SOME kind of sound to come from it! Like I said, it's very faint.
Overall, I'm very pleased. I used to use about 10 candles in my fake fireplace and always worried I'd start the house on fire and had to deal with dripping, etc. so it's nice not to have that worry anymore! The logs look very realistic (this model has the ceramic logs, not the styrofoam ones) and I don't know how they do it but it's pretty cool the way they make the flames (there's nothing you can "stick your hand in to see if it's real", it's done with a mirror somehow). Plus, don't be put off by other reviews that say they don't like the "half moon" effect on the background. I was worried about that but when I got it, it looked perfectly realistic to me! I've tried the heater to make sure it works, but it's still hot in Florida so I won't be using it for a while! It seems to work great, I just can't tell you how well it heats up a room at this point because it's not cold outside! I had no problem with the cord but then my outlet is next to my fireplace.
I checked out the fireplaces at the home stores and their flames looked so fakey compared to this one's and they were the same price or more. So trust me, I did my homework and researched to get the best at the best price, so you can trust my review!
1/12/11 update: I've had this fireplace for a few months now and absolutely love it! Everyone who comes over thinks its real! As for the heat, well, it's been pretty cold here in Florida and I have to say, you really can only feel the heat if you're standing right in front of the fireplace! It may "warm" the room up a bit, but if you're sitting on the floor in the room you can't really feel it blowing on you. It sort of blows up and out instead of directly forward and I don't know if this makes a difference or not. It's still a heat source but I use my central heater (mostly because I just had to buy a new one last year and it works great) the majority of the time.
9/02/13 update! I STILL LOVE this fireplace!! It's incredibly realistic and fools a lot of people who come to visit! The bulbs finally burned out (after nearly three years of constant use) and we thought "Uh oh" what happened? Here comes the hard part!" But it turned out to be so easy to replace them just remove the front cover (below the logs) and reach in (carefully someone with small hands!) and replace the bulbs! Easy peasy! They take normal candlebra type bulbs. If you're thinking of getting one of these I can honestly tell you they are as close to the appearance of a real fire as you can get!

For many years in the winter months, especially at Christmas time, I have made a real fire in our fireplace to get that cozy "focal point of the room" feel. Which is great, except for the work involved buying the firewood, trying to get the kindling to light, adding more wood when necessary, and of course the long and dirty cleanup the next day. What if I could click a button on a remote to obtain the same result, and then click a button to turn it off, with no cleaning ever required? Well now I can.This insert is a perfect fit for my fireplace and is bright enough and visible even behind the glass and metal gauze doors. While the "flames" are not 100% realistic, they are extremely effective in getting the effect I was looking for. And it is a sheer joy to be able to turn the unit on and off with the small, simple remote as needed.
This insert also has the ability to generate heat, but I have never used it for this purpose. Note that the "heat" option cannot be activated via the remote control; it needs to be turned on through a switch on the unit itself. That is obviously not a problem for me as we have central heating to keep the house warm, and I use the fireplace strictly for ambiance. I actually prefer that the heat is more difficult to turn on as I would not want my children to do this accidentally.
Note that to avoid a trailing power cord you will need to do what I did and have an electrician wire an outlet into your fireplace.
Perfect cozy winter ambiance that I can turn on and off at the flick of a switch, and nothing to clean up, ever. What's not to love?

Our fireplace insert arrived quickly w/o any damage. Thank you Amazon. We had no problem installing the insert & getting it running. We were surprised, however, to discover that the "remote" does nothing more than switch it on & off. The description needs to inform potential customers that switching on the heat, or changing the heat level, requires reaching inside the fireplace to work the manual switches located inconveniently at the upper right corner. We were also surprised that there is no thermostat to maintain a desired room temperature! It's my fault for not reading the description more closely, but I really expected a thermostat because that is a feature found on even cheap electric heaters. Dimplex dropped the ball here. I spent quite a bit of time researching different models on different sites. This is the best product for the price and Amazon has it for less than other online stores. I rely on the customer reviews for information regarding the quality and usefulness of products. The reviews were accurate, considering each reviewer has a different room size and climate, etc. I live in New England and haven't been a fan of burning wood since we moved into an old home in a remote location. Our home has an antique Franklin stove and a fireplace but I worry about fires and prefer not to take chances. After admiring a friend's wood stove look electric heater, I decided it would be wonderful to have an electric insert for our fireplace, which has been nothing but a large and very dark space in what should be a focal point. It took less than 10 minutes for my husband to open the box, remove the unit from the box, place it in the fireplace and plug it in. The remote needed to be synchronized with the unit but it's simple, takes about 10 seconds and the directions are in the manual. Our room is closer to 500 square feet and we keep the oil furnace thermostat in that zone at 60. We turned the unit on at high heat, found the fire look to be just fine and the temperature in the room was 70 degrees by the end of our movie viewing. We are very pleased with the product and would recommend it to anyone who has to think about budget. There are units out there for $500 and up to $1000 but I can't imagine that they would heat my room any better.12/2011 We've had the unit for a year now and it continues to work beautifully. The one thing we need to do is have the electrician come and establish a dedicated plug/circuit breaker just for the Dimplex unit. If we have on all the lights in the room, as well as the CD player and the Dimplex, the circuit breaker trips and we're sitting in the dark. We recently ordered a Duraflame electric log set for our Franklin stove and it should arrive today or tomorrow. I can't wait to plug it in. If Dimplex made the size we needed, I would have happily ordered a Dimplex.

I remodeled my bathroom about 2 years ago and did not have enough money in the budget for a wall mounted towel warmer rack. I got some extra money for Christmas this year and decided to start looking at towel warmers. As I was reading reviews I saw that a lot of people that had spent $100 to $300 on the wall-mounted towel warmer racks were disappointed in them because they only warm the part of the towel that sits on the bar. Then I happened across reviews for towel warmers like this one and they were very positive. This website had a great price compared to others I looked at so I decided to buy this one even though I couldn't find very many reviews for this model (in fact, only 1!)
I can truly say that for the money I am amazed. This unit is SO light weight I could definitely see traveling with it very easily. Its also big enough to hold my two large bath towels or 1 large towel and my pajamas, but it stores easily out of the way in my bathroom and the cord is long enough to move it around where ever I want it in my bathroom. It also gets my towels really hot. One suggestion do not put the towels in it folded up or they will not get heated evenly. Unfold the towel and just drop it down in there. The longer you leave the towels in the hotter they get and the more evenly heated they are. I also like the auto shut off at 50 minutes in case I forget to turn it off.
Overall this is a great product and I am very happy with no complaints.

This item has turned out to be quite handy. The interior is quite large enough to hold either two standard towels or one bath sheet, plus underclothes, socks and a robe. Do not be mislead by those products that say they can hold "20 towels," as they are referring to small hand towels as might be used in a beauty shop. Here are some alternative ways to use this item:1) PRE-BEDTIME: If you have just exercised and plan to go to bed after bathing, put the following items inside in the following order: robe on the bottom, then pajamas, under garments, socks, and towel on top. You will find the towel quickly loses heat in the open air as you are drying off (don't forget to close the lid to keep the other items warm while you towel off); the other items stay warm much longer than your towel. After turning the unit on to heat up, do your post-exercise stretches, brush your teeth, then shower or tub. The unit will have had plenty of time to warm your garments, and you will emerge clean, and warming your muscles after exercise. This "warm-down" routine is highly motivating to do the exercise, but it obviously also works if you are too tired to work out and just want to sink into bed warm and relaxed.
2) IF YOU PLAN TO GO OUT IN CASUAL CLOTHES AFTER BATHING: Put your slacks, shirt or sweatshirt, undergarments, socks, and towel in the unit and turn it on. Do whatever other pre-bath/shower preparations you wish (floss, brush your teeth), then shower or tub. Your clothes will be wonderfully warm once you've dried off, especially if you are going out in cold weather.
3) GIVE YOUR LITTLE ONES A TREAT: Put your toddler's robe, slippers (with soles on a paper towel), socks, and a favorite small stuffed toy on the bottom of the unit, then their pajamas and underwear topped by the towel (loading the unit can be done anytime during the day) and turn on the heat about 15 minutes before bathing them. Tub your little ones and let them know that a special treat is coming with toasty warm bedclothes to wear and a warm toy to hug while you read them a bedtime story. This routine may just make bath time less of a chore because of anticipating the warm towel, bedclothes, toy and story that follow. Just for safety sake, keep this unit out of the reach of children and unplug after use. I don't know that I'd try warming a baby's clothes because of their very tender skin.
4) I don't know how practical this idea is, but if you have time, warm the unit and your cold weather gear before going out in the cold: heat mittens/gloves, caps, neck scarves, socks and anything else that will keep you or your children warm during the winter. Remember that any metal objects (buttons, studs) on clothing can become very warm, so check those out the first time you try this. Fabric buttons should be OK. I understand that these units can be PUT ON AN AUTOMATIC TIMER, so you can set everything up the night before, and everything will be warming during breakfast, tooth brushing, hair and make-up.
I have my unit set to one side of a vanity plugged into a GFI outlet; it does not impinge on the sink at all. My bathroom is configured so that the shower is directly across from the sink, so I step out onto a bathmat and can reach over to the unit to get the towel and other items once I'm dry. This unit is stable and, of course, portable; e.g., if you just want to warm up your robe and pajamas--even a small pillow like a neck roll--in the bedroom (especially if you're under the weather) or watching TV anywhere. If you want to heat lightweight slippers, put a paper towel under the soles to keep the unit clean. The unit will fit on a night stand or end table and turns itself off automatically. Don't leave this unit where a child might knock it over or play with it.

I had high expectations of this product, based on some of the other reviews. My experience with it so far has been far less satisfying. The unit takes about 20-minutes to warm up. Who has time to take a 20-minute shower? I did connect it to a timer to overcome the heating time but still found the towels to be luke warm. If you try two thick towels, it only warms the outside. I've tried three different types of towels with the same result. Inserting a single towel, crumpled in the base works best, works best but still not great. My wife wanted a towel warmer, so with Mother's Day coming up, I started out researching free-standing and wall-mounted towel warmer racks/bars. Immpression of the racks found online was of spotty function or poor quality at unreasonable prices. Goal was a decent quality and reasonably-priced towel warmer, and found this unit. Seems great so far. Concept of dropping the towel (we don't roll it up, just drop it in) into an enclosed space to warm the entire towel makes more sense than a rack, and the unit takes up little space. Has one 20-minute heating cycle, which other reviewers suggested (and the instructions hint at) starting over for best warming. We've done both and either way seems acceptable to my wife. Styling is a little plain, sort of like a Rubbermaid container with a heating element, but then this is a basic-priced unit. Overall, my wife is pleased with it, which is what matters to me. I bought it because my daughter was asking for a candle with a 'yummy" smell. The candle exceeded all expectation aromatic and strong, but not overwhelming smell one candle's aroma covers whole floor. I love the unusual wick that makes a crackling sound I find it very soothing. I will buy more candles for myself and as presents from WoodWick.
