I am very happy with this item as a fire starter. I only have one complaint, and it is minor. I would have liked to see the sticks wrapped in paper. Red paper preferrably, but any paper would do. The reason is two fold. One, functionality. It would be easier to just light the paper surrounding the stick and allow it to start that way. Two, looks. It would look closer to the Real McCoy if it was wrapped. All this product is is your standard fire log you buy at wally world, or home improvement stores. It is exactly the same as a duraflame box of fire logs that last 4 hours or however long they are lasting these days. These are just smaller, and in stick form. Which is cool, I only bought this product because it was supposed to look like dynamite, The box is awesome! I love the wood box, and all the markings. It is filled with wood chips/sawdust to complete that look. They also serve as tinder if need be. All in all a great product. I will be wrapping mine in red paper though so as to complete the look. Might even make fuses, who knows.

I didn't care much for all the saw dust that came in the box, but the sticks work great. I would recommend not using a whole one to start a fire. Rather, you should break them in half, since that is all you need to start a good fire. The box comes in handy for storage too.

I'm not going to say that I'm a "heater" expert but I got a pretty good idea how one is "supposed" to work. This heater sucks ***. I have an average size bedroom just barely knocks the chill off, makes noise, AND the worse of the worst...it cuts on and off for no appartent reason (I got 2 at 2 different places/times so I know its not necessarily defective).

Another thing that you might find funny is that this looks "exactly" like the Lakewood heater I previously had...except that the name on it is different. I think somebody trying to run game. Bottom line keep searching (cause I am) & try your luck on another one because this one is some crap if you have an average size room and want one without the noise or cuts off all the god dangin time.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a voluntarily recall for Optimus Portable Infrared Radiant Quartz Electric Space Heaters model numbers H-5210, produced in 2011 and H-5211, produced in 2012. The CPSC in Safety Recall Number 13-191 advises anyone having these heaters, "to stop using this product unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product."

I did both of those things but:

1. The Optimus site at the web address given had no "Recall" button on it, or anywhere else on the site I could find.

2. The phone company gave me a recording that the phone number was not operational.

Finally, a call to the CPSC let me know that "this company is being "difficult about the recall," but that the CPSC compliance officer is working on it.

I don't understand how this heater could now be offered for sale after being recalled.

I've owned two of these. The first one I dropped and it stopped working. Ok, my fault. The second I heated 4 cups of water on an international trip (220 Volt) and was very careful with it, especially keeping the heating coil immersed while plugged into the electricity. I went to heat a 5th cup of water and guess what?....no longer working. I bought it especially for the international voltage feature. From my experience, I cannot recommend this product.

I read reviews that said it did not work and I still took my chances and ordered the water heater at ALSAMAUSA and hoped it will work for me but sure enough the water heater was dead on arrival. I used immersion heater before and I know how to follow instructions so that it was definitely DOA. I returned the item but wasted my money for shipping and return postage ($5.70+$5.41). The seller received my water heater few days ago and I'm still waiting for my refund. What a wast of time and money.

UPDATE: I filed A-to-z Guarantee claim to Amazon and they refunded the item price and shipping so that my loss was limited to the cost for the return shipping (postage + certified mail = $5.41).

Pro: Solid construction, plug is not cheap, wire appeared well-insulated, but not unduly stiff.

My unit quit working mid-tea cup heating, and I was dissatisfied because I thought I had only had it about six months. Amazon showed me that I received it about 25 months ago. Use was generally light, mainly onboard cruise ships, with both 110 and 220 volts used. Owned and used a bit over two years, but probably not over about 150 times, although the unit has likely traveled 50,000 miles and suffered a few light knocks, but no rough handling.

Performance and calendar service life = Five stars. Roughly 150 uses until failure = Three stars.

OVERALL: Four Stars. Will buy again.

Quality of this one is good, but "cherry" surface somehow looks cheaper. My main complaint is as always completely clueless customer service of Bush. My only concern for this piece was exact space between top and middle shelves, which Cust Rep reassured me is 9.17". Well -not true, since there is a metal support bar which runs across whole unit under the top shelf, which is not mentioned anywhere. I bought one of these as a present for my husband. It vacuums fine. However, it has a good sized dent in the lower back, where the I.D. plate is, though it was well packed. That means it was already dented when they put it in the box. The dent prevents the cord from being retracted, so it dangles helplessly out the back. I specifically chose this model so I could leave in on the fireplace hearth since it is better looking that all the rest I saw. I emailed the seller weeks ago and I have not heard one word from them-not even that they acknowledged receiving my email. I am still waiting for some kind of answer as to options for fixing it.

I've had this vac for 5 years now. Suction is good, and haven't had the dust problems as 1 consumer has stated. Wonder if both filters were installed correctly. The canister and lid are heavy duty and will probably outlast the vacuum itself. From time to time I've had difficulty with reeling the hose back in. Can be a little irritating but it's tolerable.Sometimes ash will fall out of the end of the hose when reeling it back in. They provide a plug for this reason. You definitely don't want to suck up any ambers, the bag will burn up, trust me. This is the only vac I have used for my wood stove, therefore can't compare it to other vacs.

We loved it at first, but be warned the filtering systems is minimal (paper and that is it). No one should be able to sell and ash vacuum with a high efficiency filter. After two seasons of use there is a layer of very fine dust everywhere in our hose and spouse has developed respiratory problems never had before. Have since bought a second ash vacuum for half the price and filtering system is far superior. Not as pretty, but save your lungs and your house and don't buy the Cricket.

Bought this 4 years ago with our first fireplace. It looks nice by the fireplace, but the pro's end there. The hose can be time consuming to try to put back, some days it works well and some days not. There is nothing on the end of the hose to prevent it from vacuuming up small chunks of burnt wood that then get stuck in either the front end of back end of the hose. This means you have to stop, and try to work these out. This is very time consuming and aggravating. Its much simpler to use a duspan and broom to sweep the ashes out and place in a paper bag. Today, the motor burnt out. We haven't even gone through all of the bags that came with the Cricket when we purchased it. Save your money.

Cricket Vac does what it says, looks nice left on the hearth too! Easy to use and it filters the ash very well! Glad I own it and would highly recommend to others. I am into keeping particles out of my air,this is a huge improvement over the old shovel, broom & bucket routine. I have had a wood stove for 29 years now and this vac really helps maintain it. Buy one, you won't be sorry.

In the photo of this product, it showed that each holder has a pin to secure the pillar, but when I received it the package, it didn't have that. This thing is perfect for spreading the coals after they're ready in your charcoal grill. Hard to find at certain times of the year, but great to have when you do find it. I'm a bit puzzled by the bad reviews. Either 2 different carriers are being shipped when this product is ordered, or some buyers are mistaken about it's fabric. The small tight weave of the canvas and the slight sheen of the material could cause some to think that it's nylon; however, mine is definitely a canvas carrier. In addition, the inner nylon liner is waterproof (keeping water and dirt from leaking through and staining my carpet). I hauled in a 2'x 2'x 6' stack from the woodpile upon receiving it and its no worse for wear. This carrier should last at least 3 seasons. It's not the deal of the century, but its easily worth twice the price (and no shipping cost with Prime). I hope that this helps.

I've been carrying firewood in my arms for years when I saw this and scoffed, why? But I now wish I had got one a long time ago. It has proven to keep the floor cleaner, I can make fewer trips since I can carry more without dropping any. For the price, this is very tough and I'm very satisfied with the quality. Since it doesn't take much room, it is easily stored the rest of the year. This is a a handy carrier and would recommend it if you burn much firewood. I keep mine burning most of the winter so it gets lots of use.

I purchased this log tote mainly to save my jackets from splinters. I usually bring in wood to burn from our "log bin" and it gets pretty messy. Now I just take this tote out with me, lay it flat and start stacking! I can bring in a lot of wood in one trip. The tote gets awfully heavy, but has never ripped or torn in the month I've used it. I use it atleast 2-3 times per day! I highly recommend this tote. Nothing fancy, but it's large enough to do a great job! The handle straps are sewn the entire away around the material so they will never tear away.

After reading all the reviews you would think this log tote was made out of heavy duty canvas. Well, it's not. It's just some cheap thin bit of nylon cloth with foam rubber sprayed on the inside that won't last a week of abuse carrying logs in and out of your house. To give you an idea, imagine an inexpensive duffel bag without a zipper. I suppose if you only burn wood once a year then this might work for you.

I love this heater! It takes about 20s to heat up, but it's a great heater for a small room. I turn it on at 1200W when I get home and in about 20 minutes, my room is noticeably warmer than the rest of the house. Our house is huge so a central heater would be inefficient, so we use space heaters. Ceramic heaters that blow out air warm up rooms the fastest, but use 1800W vs. 1200W or 800W from this heater. It does oscillate and allows you to tilt the heater as well as change the direction of the heat manually, without having to turn oscillation on. Have not tried the remote yet as I keep it within an arm's length away.

I've hung a shirt over this heater before & took a bit too long in getting it off, so the alarm light came on because it was overheating. I was nearby and watching it, but it seems if you did something stupid like went away while you left your shirt on the heater, then it might burn out or cause a fire (or it might turn itself off). When you lift it up, the safety function comes on and it does shut itself off.

I bought a Soleus 14" as well (400W & 800W) and to compare with the soleus which is a bulb, I think the Soleus is more instant & has the 400W option, for those who want to keep the heater close by and not looking to warm the whole room. The Soleus is a lot brighter because it uses a bulb, whereas this one uses coils. I feel like the Soleus is a bit warmer at 800W than this one at 800W, but the Optimus will probably be better at warming up a room at the same 800W. The soleus, when you lift it, will momentarily turn itself off, but will come on again by itself (whereas this one will stay off & you need to turn it on again).

This one does make a bit of noise while it's starting up, but becomes quiet after. I'd highly recommend both the Soleus & the Optimus. Just have to decide whether you want 400W & 800W (Soleus) or 800W & 1200W (Optimus). I've been keeping the optimus in the bedroom to warm up the bedroom and the Soleus in the bathroom to warm myself instantly & for only a short while.

Instead of buying the Presto heater from Costco AGAIN, I bought this one because of the new features:

* Very simple 800 or 1200 watt settings (Costco's Presto is 1500 watts, manually adjustable with the knob)

* Timer (3 settings~ save energy!)

* Remote (comes with a snap-in bracket that can be mounted on the arm of the heater) works well IF you point it right at the sensor (located at the base of the heater). I thought it didn't work in the beginning and almost wanted to return it. Finally I figured it out. IT WORKS!

* Up-down manual tilting

* Tip-over (or if you want to move the unit) Auto shutoff (Presto will make a beeping sound if you move it. This one simply shut it off.)

Overall, the quality is good with the additional features that WORKS. I just don't wanna spend the same money buying the same old stuff from Costco. This one is a keeper. The only possible concern is the warranty. I cannot found the company's contact phone number (they only provide an AOL email). :P

If you are looking for up to 1200 watts (not the highest power), additional features such as timer, remote and up/down tilt, this is a good buy! :D

I purchased this item maybe two months ago. I never used it much until I went to bed. When I turned it on it would be on no longer than 10 to 15min. tops before I turned it off to go to bed. Last week I turned it on as usual and it made strange noises and the second level of heating did not come on. No matter how many times I tried to heat it, it would turn itself off. I wish I could get my money back even though I have 4 other dish heaters in my home that work well for the last several years. But this one from another company pooped out. I didn't get my monies worth.

I'm disappointed.
