This metal fireplace screen is perfect for my gas fireplace! I did not need the functional ability of a screen front, but rather I required a decorative finishing touch to my fireplace. The best features of this screen are: 1. You can see the fire nicely through the open decoration; 2. It's narrow profile allows it to fit snuggly to the hearth, leaving room for my baskets, vase, etc. The mixed color finish is actually nicer than I thought it might be. This is a beautiful fireplace screen. It is well constructed and has an elaborate design. I have research many fireplace screens, and for the design and size of this one, you would have to pay almost triple the price. The colors that the screen come in may be hard to match to many decors, but the metal can be very easily painted. Overall, this fireplace screen is pretty good. It came packaged well and is a good value for the money. The picture of the product is a tad misleading as the colors are a bit more bold then they appear. The center ornament is actually antique silver and quite shiny. My husband thought this was perfect for our fireplace, especially the bright green and silver. I expected softer color tones.To achieve the one-tone effect I wanted, I just turned it around to put the footings on. It is more lightweight than I imagined, but that makes it easy to move as needed. Easy assembly.

1st off, i want to expain why this product gets 3 stars. The product came do me damaged with pieces of wood missing. Seeing how the boards that were damaged didn't seem to be boards of the front of the unit, i chose not to return it and just paint over it. the only other problem was the directions. Horrible building instructions. With that being said the pieces were well labeled and easy to put together after u got the hang of the instructions. Overall though, i'm happy with the final product and would recommend to others. Hopefully yours won't be damaged but still a solid unit.

After reading Mirielle Guiliano's memoir about food, entitled "French Women Don't Get Fat" and feeling annoyance over the loss of Total Greek Yogurt on the shelves of my local Whole Food (this is temporary), I decided to buy this yogurt maker and simply make my own.
The procedure is a simple one; heat some milk until bubbles appear on the side of the pan and steam actually rises; take off the stove and pop in the included thermometer. When the milk temperature lowers to a specific window indicated on the thermometer, add some milk to 2 tablespoons of purchased plain yogurt or yogurt starter. Mix and then add to the milk in the pan.
As the yogurt maker has slots for 8 containters with lids, simply pour an equal amount of the milk from the pan, put on the lids, cover the yogurt maker and plug the machine in.
The machine sits on a counter; I advise parking it in a place where the digital controls are not interferred with as just one little push will turn the whole thing off. I set my yogurt to "cook" for 14 hours. The result: Great consistancy and flavor that matches store bought without the preservatives and other additives.
The machine includes includes instructions on how to make flavored yogurt; it seems simple, but I have not tried it.
Bottom line: this machine does the trick with little or no fuss. I also purchased the yogurt cheese maker which will allow me to turn my homemade yogurt into a spread that I can use on bread in the AM. Doesn't get any better!

I must admit, I was skeptical. Over the years, I've eaten so much yogurt; in the last two years, I've switched to plain yogurt as most others have so much sugar. It's hard to find plain yogurt that tastes great--both the taste and the texture have to be just so. The best-tasting option I've found is a brand sold at Whole Foods; it's expensive, and it seems that the full-fat version is the only kind with the right texture.When I read the book "French Girls Don't Get Fat", I thought I'd give homemade yogurt a try and save a little money (sort of like buying an espresso machine, rather than buying a $3 latte at Starbucks every day!)
Yesterday I made my first batch with the Donvier Yogurt Maker. First of all, it's SO simple. Three ingredients: Milk, milk powder, and starter (I used 2T of my regular brand). Four simple steps:
1. Stir the milk powder into the milk (I used non-fat milk, and the non-fat milk powder makes the yogurt creamier)
2. Heat the milk until it almost boils
3. Cool the milk till it reaches 110--simple to gauge, using the thermometer included with the machine--then add the starter
4. Pour into the cups, and let the machine do its work!
I mixed the batch up in the morning, and by the evening I could move the cups to the fridge to chill. This morning I was treated to fresh yogurt; the creamiest, freshest tasting yogurt I've ever had, and it was non-fat with NO additives!
I highly recommend this machine. If you like yogurt, you'll love what you can make at home with the Donvier!

I recently purchased the DONVIER after reading the French diet book. Like another reviewer...I too use whole organic milk. I do not heat the milk on the stove in a pan...too messy. What I do instead is to put all of the milk into a large Pyrex measuring cup, pop it in the microwave for 6 minutes and it is ready to go. This yogurt maker gives poor results. I used whole milk and added milk powder, as the booklet suggests. It heated it to nearly boiling, cooled it to the suggested temp with the thermometer supplied, added in the powdered yogurt culture that came with the machine, and cooked it in the little cups for 12 hours. All very easy to do. In the end, I had four cups of decent yogurt from the middle pots, and four cups of liquid from the outer ones. It appears that the machine's main problem is too low a temperature, and even lower temps on the outer parts of the machine.Also, the recipe calls for 1 quart of milk, and that only half fills the little cups.
I'm going to try making yogurt in my toaster oven, which has a 100F setting, and see how that works. I'm disappointed that this little machine doesn't do the one thing it's supposed to do heat the 8 cups and produce yogurt after 10 hours.
Edited August 2008: I have been successfully making yogurt in my regular oven, by mixing 1 1/2 quart milk and a 1/2 cup Activia yogurt as the original starter culture, then filling small Rubbermaid snack cups and putting on the lids. I use only the oven light and leave the cups overnight (6-8 hours). Excellent yogurt, easy to make, and without any more appliances cluttering up my kitchen. I keep my starter going by using the last cup of my homemade yogurt mixed into milk for the next batch.

I cannot say enough good things about this item, even though I purchased it somewhat tentatively and my husband thought it would be the next big white elephant. I decided on this product as it seemed to offer a few extras for slightly more cost (thermometer, timer, etc.). I have been making yogurt every week since however and it could not be easier, fresher or better tasting. I have followed the directions included with the maker and have not had any problems (organic skim milk, organic milk powder and yogurt as starter. Heat milk in microwave 8 minutes, "cook" in maker for 10 1/2 hours). The yogurt is firm, I think comparable to American store versions. My four year old eats it on his cereal instead of milk and asks for it for snacks, eating right out of the container. I also purchased the additional set of yogurt cups so I could make a new batch while still eating the rest.I would like to add I am not an organic go-getter. We've recently been making some changes based on a general concern for how often we are exposed to chemicals, etc. in our and our children's lives. The yogurt maker has given us one more way to feel secure in and expand our choices. Enjoy!

I resarched this on Amazon and was able to find it at my local fireplace shop. I love my Napoleon fireplace insert and usually burn it around the clock, however this requires cleaning out the ashes about once a week. Typically I have to let the fireplace cool down for two days before I can empty the ashes without making a mess. This tool lets me separate the hot coals from the ash so it burns out faster. It works well, though it not sized quite right for my unit. As long as the welds hold up I think I'll be happy with it.

I purchased this as a gift for my wife and went through the instructions step by step in setting it up in an existing fireplace only to find that while it looks great it does not however produce hardly any heat at all. Unless you're standing, not sitting like you would a real fire place, but standing literally directly in front of it and over it you will not feel any heat. I contact the seller and was basically told that, "it was what it was", and I'd have to deal with it. Highly aggravated now since I already went through the not so simple task of trimming it out in order to fit the existing opening, as well as running wires up to the attic and then down behind the wall through to properly mount the thermostat control I now had to undo all I had accomplished in order to package it back up and send it back due to no cooperation or help of any kind from the seller. Amazon however was and usually are easy to deal with on returns. I would NOT recommend this product if you are expecting it to maintain some warmth in a room any bigger than a small bedroom or large closet. But again, we were impressed with it's all around look. The Igloo RCA 8000 btu window air conditioner does cool but there are 2 things wrong with it one no matter what direction you turn the air deflectors to the air still comes out basicly to the front not to where you directed it to, second the air conditioner switches from cooling to fan long before it reaches the set tempature, and 3rd you cannot feel the air flow from the unit unless your right in front of it my desk sits only 9 feet from the unit and I cannot feel the air flow and thats with it pointed right at me. I bought a SPT 6000 btu air conditioner before I bought this one it works 100 percent better then the RCA 8000 so I put the SPT 6000 back in the window it cools the room better and I can feel the air flow just fine. Ok, I read the reviews and decided to buy this product. I waited for a package to arrive and instead a very small envelop comes... that's right an envelop. In it is a yet smaller thin plastic bag with a tiny sample like amount of this product. NO more than an ounce. I went back to the Amazon site and re read the product description. Guess what, no quantity or weight indicated. There isn't enough product for a doll house fireplace, let alone a real home fireplace. What really hurts is the 8 dollars shipping which is non refundable! This is a two postage stamp item.
I am a big Amazon fan but this is the worst shopping experience I have had. $ for one ounce, maybe less, of product plus 8$ more for shipping is tantamount to Fraud. I am embarrassed to admit I even bought this but i thought i should warn others...

The Amazon reviews posted at this time accord with my assessment. Good product. expensive. The shipping charges were nearly 1/2 the price of the product. That said, it was worth it.by way of background i've converted my last 3 fireplaces to fake logs starting in the late 80s 2 brands of ceramics initially which didn't work well for me, then about 15 years ago a set of fiberglass logs that i really like. I have been recharging the fake embers about every 5 years all along with acceptable results. although pleasing, the embers never looked realistic for the absence of glowing chunks. When I got ready to recharge again this winter, i saw the Platinum Bright for the first time. The reviewers seemed to agree with the manufacturer that this gives the appearance of the glowing chunks that i wanted.
Well, they work just as advertised and give the old glowing embers much greater appeal. This one small bag of product (just a few ounces) is enough to add some realistic effects to the old logs and embers (i did not recharge the old embers, just added the platinum brights. I have a 36" hearth, and this one small bag did the trick for me. (n.b., i only added the PB atop the embers that were already glowing and made no attempt to rearrange and i'm satisfied with the result).
I think the product is worth the money paid, except for the outrageous postage. All said, recommended with the caveat that it might be worth your while to see of the local hardware store has them and spare you the postage. Product_A; Postage=D

Like a previous reviewer, I was a bit taken aback at the small package, however once I went to put the embers in my fireplace, I realized I only needed half the package to fill the space in my single-side, full size fireplace effectively. In fact, once I turned it on, I probably could have put 1/3 of the package in and had a similar effect. I agree that the $8 shipping charge is excessive, hence the 4 stars instead of 5, but the embers do burn brighter than what we had previously (installed by the previous owners of our home.)Want Platinum Bright Embers Discount?
