The heater didn't work when first installed.pilot light wouldn't stay lit. Talked with tech person & he sent me a new thermocouples & gas valve. Found out it was a defective valve. After unpacking I found a dent and crease in the upper housing and a corner of the reflector bent up. It requires a separate thermostat to operate (not included) . Figured the cheaper sale price was because this looks more like a scratch and dent sales item. I would give 5 stars for the heater, but the included thermostat is JUNK, and Mr. Heater, a long-respected company, is shooting themselves in the foot with this t-stat. Installed in my Denver garage ( 650 sqft), anf it heats very efficiently, but the t-stat, set at 35deg, heats garage to constant 50+ degrees, so I wasted a huge amount of gas trying to just keep things from freezing in the garage until I replaced it, so I recommend not even using their t-stat, but having a quality part handy when you install it. Otherwise, it's a great heater, may even consider one in LP for our mountain cabin.

This item looks and burns eactly like the pictures in the advertisement. While only intended to be decorative, it does put out a reasonable amount of heat, so my wife can be warm on her end of the couch and I can be comfortable on mine. It has a low odor and pleasant crackling sound as it burns. I have one minor complaint. It will burn only about 2/3 of its fuel before it will no longer function. This is a venting issue. But the fuel is easily scooped out and placed in another partially used can with a spoon, so this is certainly not a show stopper. All in all, a very nice room accent.This little fireplace cheers up so many cold evenings at my house! We don't have a built-in fireplace at our house...but this one is great. It crackles, the flame is actually quite high, and it seems to be very sturdy (have used it for 3 years now). The glass does get sort-of black/sooty, but I think that's just what happens with fire. You can (mostly) wash it off). You do need to buy the gel fuel cans, which can be pretty expensive. I buy them here on Amazon...have never been able to find them in stores. They're about $2-$4/can, which lasts about 4 hours or so. Still, it's worth it...we don't have a "fire" every night, but once a week or so, we have one. We use this fireplace inside with no problems, though the flame is pretty high, so with little kids it might be an issue. Ordered this for my husband so that he could tell people he has a fireplace in every room of our house. :) We like it but were really surprised it didn't arrive with any gel not even one can. He had to wait several days to be able to use his gift.

The only problem i have is i passed on some cheaper deals to order a "Reddy Heater" brand thermostat and that is not what i recieved. I recieved an "off" brand, not what was described when i ordered. This works fine, but the rotary temperature selector should be bigger. No way to select it to a precise degree. For example, 70 and 75 are so close together that you can select somewhere between them and it will keep somewhere between them. We love this fireplace screen. However, the color threw us for a look. When we openned it up and set it out we were suprised that the color was more oreange than a dark rustic brown or green color we were hoping for. The "Broan 6201 Big Heat", heater is well worth the money. I owned the previous model, Broan 6200 Big Heat for use in a 34 ft. Motor Home. I used it for 10 winters. It finally wore out. I was so excited to find the same Brand, "Broan 6201 Big Heat", on "Amazon.com". I have used other brands, but the "Broan" is the best you can buy.

On December 12th 2010 I ordered a Honeywell HZ-817 Baseboard heater. I'd read the reviews posted on Amazon and also checked with Consumer Reports who gave it a high rating. It arrived about 10 days later. We set it up in our 11' x 11' bedroom and it worked great. It provided a constant heat (we like it about 62 to 64 degrees) and without the fan it was completely silent. That lasted about a month. Then it stopped working. I tried calling customer service but the wait was too long so I sent an email instead. I received a reply a couple of days later at first offering to have me ship it to Massachusetts (I live in Maine)for an exchange. A subsequent email alerted me to the fact that they didn't have any more of those models in stock and didn't know when they would. Because of the time of year she offered to ship me a lesser model, the HZ-617 without the Energy Saver mode, and waive the shipping fees. This works great. I live in California where the temperature's great most of the time, but in the winter gets down into the 40s at night and my place doesn't have heat, so I picked up this heater. It heats up my bedroom to a comfortable temperature within 15-30 minutes if I keep the door closed. It's silent when the fan's not on, and creates only a very faint whir when it is on (Quick Heat Mode.) We haven't turned on the heater until today received it in April, but has been way to hot to use. Plugged it in, lights went on, but nothing...no heat, no sound, no fan, nothing nothing nothing. Cold as ice. Called their customer relations and waited for a full 45 minutes with the phone on speaker. Finally someone answered and I described the problem. They told me I was responsible for packing the item up, shipping it to them and sending them a $10 fee for processing and handling! This is outrageous, since it has never even been used. I am having to go through the hassle and cost for their defective merchandise. Never again!
