This little heater works quite well. The snap on feet made it very easy to install no tools required. The adjustable thermostatic also works well (unlike some others I have tried). It is a simple dial control which made it perfect for my older people. I haven't yet fully tested the high heat setting, but on the low setting, it kept my 10 x 14 foot room quite comfortable. Best part of the heater is that It makes no noise that I have been able to tell, except a very slight click when the heater turns on at the thermostat setting.

The heater is simple and easy to use. But I had to return it because of the smell it makes in just about 5 minutes of turning it on. I had it running for about an hour and the smell gets worse. So I've decided to quickly pack it up again and return.

I had previously given this heater a great review. however, it worked great for two months, then the on/off switch broke. woke up in the middle of the night, freezing. even when I managed to turn it on, it would switch off.

I had bought the heater directly from the company website. the company refused to pay for shipping me a replacement. then they wanted me to pay the shipping back to them if they gave me a refund. after a few phone calls and the supervisor not bothering to give me a requested call back, I got them to send me a label for sending the unit back. and they gave me a refund.

so, the heater gets one star and the company gets one star. its unfortunate, but, they didn't care that the unit broke after only two months. so, will never use the company again.

I would have given you 5 stars if it came with instruction.

The logs look and feel like real wood they burn great

with my gas fire place. I ordered them Sunday night and received

them on Tuesday. The price included shipping which was great.

Tip clean the dirt from your fireplace and save to spread around

the bottom of the logs that give it a real sense of wood.

I put these in place of an old fireplace log set. I probably could have bought a smaller set, but placed the extra log in my basement for next time I need to replace a fireplace log. These were perfectly packaged and easy to use.

CONS: Light weighted cabinet (not stable); imitation wood (sticker); inaccurate temperature detection; displayed temperature is the temperature to reach, not the current temperature in the room; fan is very loud; no battery for the remote; advertises as a 6500 BTU when in fact it is a 5100 BTU unit.

PROS: Light weight (but easy to move); has auto turn on and off; has an economy mode setting (500 watts); master on/off switch; fan seems to blow pretty hard.

NEUTRAL: Heat blows toward the floor (maybe 35 degree angle)

..based on my experience attempting to return this item, BEWARE OF FAT BOY TOOLS a seller of this item. They attempted to close my claim for a return and sent me the following message: "Fat Boy Tools has closed your return request. I decided on this particular heater over others because it advertises the heater as 6500 BTUs and a five year warranty. When it arrived and I was looking at the box I noticed that it was only 5100 BTUs and has a 3 year year warranty. I thought they had sent me the wrong one but when I compared the model number it was the correct model number. I contacted the company that sent me the heater and they just said that that was the information the Lifesmart company provided them with. To me, that is false advertising!

For starters, I think this is the first time I've taken the time to write a review. I was just a little frustrated how poorly this product was ranked after I committed to buy two of them.

I actually bought this product from e-bay as they were running a big sale. However, I buy a ton from Amazon and always compare prices to theirs and often look at some of the reviews. As with any other item, there are almost always a lot of likes and dislikes. This product had plenty of one star reviews which kind of scared me. Then, I looked at the intelligence level of the reviewers. The fan was "noiser" as opposed to "noisier". One star because the remote didn't have batteries, really??? It wasn't made out of wood, it was plastic on wood. Not true with mine, it's not oak or anything, but it is at least veneer. It only raised the room "2 degree" my old one raised it "8 degree". Firstly, more than one means "degrees". There were some other reviewers that had experience with more expensive units that said this performed "comparably" for the price. I went with the more educated people and bought two of these units. I've only been using them for two days and I'm actually pretty impressed. I use these for localized heating because I run a pellet stove in a 2,850 square foot house. The heat simply can't make it to all areas. I was using some smaller electric faux stoves that worked fairly well. However, not all of them I had have built in thermostats. These units do and they seem to work pretty well. I had one in my bedroom (big bedroom and master bath) and set it at 65 degrees last night. This morning, my atomic clock was reading 63.9 degrees. Close enough considering I have the blower pointing away from the clock. I'm sure it would have been higher if I pointed the heater towards the clock/thermometer. This was on the low (500W) setting. I have not even used the 1,000W setting yet. This product is advertised to help supplement your existing heat and to be efficient at doing so. I don't pay that much attention to my electric bill, but it's 1,500W which seems to be the max for all of these small stand alone units (for the most part). I have oil heat which I have not used for two years since installing a large pellet stove, thanks to my free Obama money at the end of 2011. But, as mentioned before, the heat can't permeate through my entire house well. I use some ceiling fans to move the air around but that's not enough to get the upstairs warm. Yes, I understand, heat rises, but apparently, not as much as I would like. So, in a nutshell, this seems to work great to heat a room locally. It also has an auto on/auto off timer. I have not used that either, but figure the auto on will work nice to come on a couple of hours before you get home. It's not like an alarm clock. You have to tell it to come on in a certain amount of hours. Other complaints included that the display shows the setpoint, not the actual temperature. OK, some people will want it one way, some the other. It seems to hold the setpoint fairly well, so I'm OK with that. Another heater I have displays the actual temperature of the heater, so it is consistently hotter than what the actual room temperature is. Lastly, some people complain it's too loud. The filter on my fishtank, which is called a Whisper filter, is louder, so the volume does not bother me. Seems fine. I guess that's enough said, I think it's a pretty good product. While it may not completely heat your trailer, it's pretty good for keeping some larger rooms that need a boost nice and cozy. I'd recommend to a friend.

Pros:

Attractive package that you can easily put a picture or plant on top of

Fully assembled upon arrival, including the wheels (which are stable as opposed to one review)

On/Off Timer

Remote (except for the added $1.00 you'll have to pay for two AA batteries)

F/C temperature display

Directional heat as you can point it where you want the heat to go

Cons:

People seem to have had problems with the vendor they purchased it from when they were dissatisfied

Doesn't have the fake logs and flames that the faux heaters have that most people actually enjoy

Won't walk my dog or make me coffee in the morning (just had to come up with a complaint like the other one star reviews)

Sorry if I insulted anyone's intelligence, but some of those reviews really are comical.

Happy New Year

I bought this product for 179.00 on Amazon, through FAT BOYS TOOLS. It works about the same as my hair dryer on warm.

It ran quite for about three hours and now makes enough noise to be bothersome.

Honestly, I have a 30.00 radiant heater that works ten times better.

In retuning this item I have to pay a 12% restocking fee, that is 31.60 to me, and a 11.40 pre paid shipping fee. The grand total for 43.00. I have learned my lesson, do not buy from Fat Boys Tools. I tried to work something out with them, I wanted a replacement heater, but they don't sell any other heaters that work better then this one. In fact the young lady in customer service told me that this heater only heats as a secondary heater and brings the room four degrees higher then the primary heat source has heated it. Sounds to me that 1800 square feet "line" is just an eye catching bate, It is advertised to "1800 Square Foot Infrared Quartz Heater...." Sounds to me like it might heat that 1800 square ft. space. My place is no more then 600 sq. feet all one room, No it is not warm!!!

Sadly, Elizabeth Ma.

This is the classic size Dutch Oven that is used by boy scouts, girl scouts, chuck wagon cooks, and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. My review is mostly limited to the outdoor uses of this wonderful classic dutch oven, but I use one at home as well. This model is a #12 dutch oven which is the "standard" size most commonly used, but there many sizes bigger and smaller. This one holds 8 quarts, measuring 12" in diameter by 5" tall. It has the tripod legs and a recessed lid best suited for cooking in coals. But those legs make it harder to use in a conventional oven, you need to maneuver the legs if possible onto your grill rack. They make a legless version with the domed lid for a home oven, and I have used it in a fire as well. On this model, you can even flip this lid over and use it as a skillet in a pinch if you need to in camp. You can do it all with a Dutch Oven cobblers, stews, beans, roasts, dumplings, you name it. It is the ultimate "one pot" pan.

QUALITY: There is a reason you can find old cast iron pans in antique stores, it lasts forever. I have quite a few pans and stuff inherited from family members and even some garage sale finds. I have found pans rusted and abused to where they would head for the trash bin if they were made of anything else, but you can bring cast iron back with some elbow grease and a re-seasoning or two. While my modern expensive non-stick cookware seems to last no more than a few years before replacement in my kitchen, but this stuff can easily last many decades of daily use. Lodge has a life time warranty! I love to cook with cast iron even at home, it is so durable, but I can take it camping too. Easy to clean up, the only drawback being it is heavy and hard on your wrists as you get older. Cast iron takes a bit longer to heat up, but the heat transfers very evenly without hot spots and it retains its heat for a long time. It can go from stovetop to oven with ease. Do not use it at temperatures higher than 500 degrees, as it can crack. I am not sure why, but people swear certain foods just taste better in cast iron. I believe that cast iron only improves with use and proper care instead of wearing out like other pans. As for Lodge, there really is a big difference in quality, their current pans are noticeably better than the other brands.

SEASONING FINISH: Seasoning of cast iron cookery does not refer to flavor, but the finish, a kind of glaze on the pan. I love old pans because they have the best seasoning, the older the better. I have inherited many old pans. The modern version sold here is "pre-seasoned" and ready to cook in, but we used to have to season these ourselves in the old days. It needs to stay black and a bit shiny inside to stay seasoned. If you do lose your seasoning due to rust or an overaggressive cleaning, simply wipe it with oil inside and out and place it in a hot oven for about 20 minutes or so. Let it cool in the oven slowly and naturally to room temperature again. It also helps to wipe it with a paper towel of oil after cleaning, or spray it with cooking oil and wipe. If it gets rusty, re-season it, you can get it like new again. DO NOT cook on it without re-seasoning though, as the food will stick. A note on what type of oil to use for seasoning, if you can do so use bacon grease, lard or butter, vegetable oil can sometimes get a little sticky in the pan and does not seem to get enough glaze as the animal based fats in my experience.

CLEANING: There is a debate on the cleaning of cast-iron that is as old as the pans, as to whether to use soap or not and how that affects sanitation. The Lodge company recommends cleaning without soap, but some people do so under certain circumstances. To clean without soap wash it with hot water or boil hot water in it and scrub it with a long handle brush or plastic scrubber, but never a metal scrubber as you can scratch the seasoning glaze. If you do use soap be sure it is very mild, maybe just dip your scrubber in the dishwater but don't immerse your pan in it. Immediately drying the pan is critical to its care either way, as soon as you clean the pan hand dry it with a paper towel and re-oil the pan immediately. For the most part, cast iron is non-stick as long as it is seasoned. If you use the pan on a fire, you can get soot on the exterior. An old Boy Scout trick to keep the exterior clean of soot if used on a campfire, is to treat the pan prior to cooking in the following manner. First wipe the pan (exterior only!) with some wet soap or a wet SOS pad, then let it dry before using it on the fire. Then when you are ready for washing, the soap has laid a protective layer over the exterior surface and the soot just wipes right off when you clean up with water.

ACCESSORIES: There are plenty of terrific Dutch oven and cast iron cook books here at Amazon.com. You can also get videos/DVD on Dutch Oven cooking like the one with Cee Dub. You can get affordable accessories too such as a Dutch oven tote bag, tongs, lid lifter, lid stand, and gloves. To be safe if cooking on coals or fire, use the lid lifter accessory, it will keep you from getting burned. I highly recommend this pan, and have decades of experience behind that statement, enjoy your cobbler!

If you're reading this, you probably already know about camp dutch ovens. I've been a Boy Scout my whole life, and a Scoutmaster and adult leader for several years now... (and an avid camper and outdoor cook to boot.) I have owned 5 or 6 dutch ovens in my life, and I'm now convinced that there is no match for the quality of LODGE dutch ovens. They are worth paying a little extra for. The others aren't really worth buying-the cheaper ones don't keep a finish like the LODGE ovens do.

I've bought the original finish and now this one with the LOGIC factory forged finish. I LOVE the pre-seasoned cookware. It isn't the finish that you'll get after years of seasoning, cooking and taking care of an oven, BUT you'll love that you will be able to cook on this oven RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. So, if you're into instant gratification (with no downside-they season perfectly as you use them) this is the oven choice for you.

In more than a decade of outdoor cooking experience, I have learned one valuable lesson: always trust anything from Lodge. This rule has been tested on everything from a simple skillet to the monster dutch ovens crafted to feed an army. In all those years, Lodge has never failed me.

I tried to save money by using cast iron utensils from other firms, and have paid dearly for it. No body has the durability, the skill, or the quality of Lodge. There is something magic about the Lodge method of manufacturing, and that magic is worth every penny that you pay for. When you purchase from Lodge, you aren't simply buying a pot or skillet, you're acquring a lifelong companion that your children will be using when you are gone.

I have 5 dutch ovens of various sizes, numerous skillets and griddles, and all of them bear the Lodge name and logo, and all of them still perform just like they did when I first got them, although they have improved with age because the taste and the smell of the food that comes from them says it all.

Trust me, friends: you can save money by buying another brand, but you will be making a grave mistake. Don't try to be cheap, buy Lodge and prepare yourself for a quality product that will last for a long, long time.

We are very pleased with our Lodge Logic 8 quart camp dutch oven. It's true about the preseasoned readiness of the dutch. Straight out of the box, we rinsed it with hot water, applied a thin coat of cooking oil, and started cooking. The instruction/recipe book was most helpful to us,being first time owners. It listed the amount of charcoal needed for various cooking temperatures and sizes of the dutch ovens being used. We used one of our own recipes, stuffed meatballs. The food turned out great! We think it tasted better. We plan on buying a 10" and an 8" camp dutch to use with this 12" so we can try the stacking method of cooking. As a side note, we found the Weber chimney charcoal starter to work well, and at a price under 13 bucks at the HomeDepot. Also my husband came up with the idea of using leather welding gloves for safe handling of the charcoal chimney and the hot dutch. We found a pair at Sears for under 10 bucks. To use our dutch while camping we thought it best to use a metal container of some sort for a cooking table that is light weight and packable. We found the solution at a restaurant supply store, a huge 15"dia.aluminum cake pan with 2" sides. We also found 16" tongs at that store. This is a fun and tasty way of cooking outdoors.

This is a great tool for baking European style crusty bread! Best bread I ever made. Saw the recipe in Mother Earth News: 3 cups bread flour, 1/4 tsp dry yeast, 1 1/2 tsp salt, and 1 1/2 cups water. Dissolve yeast in water. Mix ingredients in mixing bowl, but don't knead. Cover with wrap and let it rise 12-18 hours til dotted on top with bubbles. Roll dough into ball and set seam side down on dish cloth heavily coated with flour and corn meal. Let dough rise til double. About 20 minutes before dough is ready, put Lodge Dutch Oven, lid and all, into your oven and set temp to 450. After 20 min without burning yourself, put dough, seam side up into kettle and cover. Return to oven and cook for 30 minutes with lid on. Then remove lid and continue baking til it browns up and sounds hollow when tapped. Remove and let cool.

I had to replace my remote control (dog chewed it) and the servo controller. The controller simply plugged into the exact location as the old unit. The wire connections are two different sizes; therefore, you can not plug it together incorrectly. Also, the wires on this replacement unit are about 12 inches longer than my original unit, which came with my fireplace logs.

The remote control synchronized perfectly with the controller. The entire refit took less than 10 minutes to install. This was a very simple "plug and play" procedure when replacing an extisting model SR-1001.

I'm a big food Network fan and my favorite guy is Alton. What I saw on one of his shows was the most awesome advice for this device. Take ONE, that's right, ONE piece of newspaper and sprinkle a few drops of vegetable oil on it; then put it under your chimney starter (outdoors, please, eggman if you're reading this) and fire it up with a full can of any kind of charcoal. You won't believe how well this works. One more thing; DO NOT set a chimney starter on a gravel driveway when you start it. For some reason, the heat transfers much easier through gravel than concrete. Just put the thing on your grill grate and wait for 20 minutes. You'll have smokin' hot coals that will be almost too hot for smokin' food. I even saw Alton searing tuna on top of one of these things.

This is the absolute best way to get your grill going. Unlike the little chimneys sold at Lowe's, this holds a lot of charcoal, enough to fill an entire kettle grill, and the airflow through it is very efficient. Two sheets of newspaper and a match, and your briquettes will be ready to go in 10-15 minutes.

The aluminized finish on this resists heat and rust quite well. Other reviewers have commented on the helper handle, but the really key feature of this chiminey starter is the conical wire grid inside that holds up the charcoal. Unlike perforated metal plate inside the no-name chimeny starters, this wire grid lets all of the flame from the newspaper through to the charcoal, resulting in the charcoal lighting in half the time.

All of that, and it isn't any more expensive that the no-name brands. Bigger, faster, and more durable. What more could you ask for?

Buy Weber 7416 Rapidfire Chimney Starter Now

I usually cook in small batches, so I have a small Weber Smokey Joe. Since the grill is so small, I figured I could get away with using a perforated coffee can as a chimney starter to save the $13. I took the can, removed both ends with a can opener, and made a bunch of holes along the bottom with a bottle opener. I then put a sheet of newspaper inside, pile the coals on top, and light it. The can worked, and I used it for over a year, but then I finally decided that this starter was cheap enough that I should give it a try.

The difference is night and day -my coals start in half the time with the Weber, are much hotter when started, and, if I need to, I can start a LOT more coals at once. When they call this "Rapidfire" they mean it. If I had known what I do now, I never would've gone the coffee can route. This thing is so cheap, and works so well, that everyone with a charcoal grill should have one.

Read Best Reviews of Weber 7416 Rapidfire Chimney Starter Here

This starter is bigger than I thought it would be when I ordered it. It is big enough that I have never filled it more than about halfway with briquettes. Even at about half-full it is enough to supply two dutch ovens (12 inch and 14 inch, stacked) with enough firepower to cook a good meal.

I really like that this requires no lighter fluid and will start the charcoal faster than the lighter fluid ever could. Applying a little cooking oil to the paper you place in the bottom does seem to start the charcoal faster, although it will temporarily smoke a bit more. Without adding oil I have found that I sometimes need to wait 10-12 more minutes longer or add more paper to the bottom before the charcoal is fully going.

To stress again the size of this, filling the starter completely as shown in the picture would probably use between one-quarter and one-third of a 20 pound bag of charcoal.

By consistently filling my it to approximately the same level (between the second and third holes on the side) my starter has developed a nice dull ring around it from the oxidation of the aluminum at high temperatures. Yes, the can was red hot (actually glowing). This does not in any way affect function and is almost certainly the reason for the aluminized steel, since this layer of oxidized aluminum will help to prevent oxidation of the steel (rust). I suspect that this would extend to cover the whole can after several years of use or a few big barbecues where the whole can is filled.

Want Weber 7416 Rapidfire Chimney Starter Discount?

I've had several of these. They are great. Word of warning when done dumping coals look into the chimney to be sure all coals are gone. In the process of transporting my chimney to bare ground, I hadn't noticed that a small piece of coal dropped out and rolled near the house on my deck out of sight. Dog woke me up at 2AM my deck and house were on fire. Got it under control and repaired. Very thankful to my dog and that my home is brick. Since then I have seen coals stuck in the chimney grate after pouring. Please be careful folks. I was fortunate to have a persistent dog. Still use one today.

The Dimplex Celeste Stove is well made and a much better value than the cheaper stoves that are available.

The "fire" in the stove is realistic especially the glowing embers. To a casual glance it looks like a real fire (although with careful examination the "flames" are not as realistic). The cabinet is very sturdy and gives a well-built feel. The cream color is nice and the finish is durable.

Note that the stove can use a lot of electricity 15 amps when the fire, air filter, and heater are all working. If you have it plugged into a 15 amp circuit any additional load (a lamp, tv, etc.) on the circuit will trip the circuit breaker. Ideally it should have a dedicated circuit for its exclusive use.

I bought this item about Three Years ago We progressed from a wood burning fireplace, to a Gas insert ( really beautiful but expensive to use), "Down" to this unit. I would never have dreamed that THIS solution would be far the best.

Instant heat ( if you want ) , and a SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL, very realistic looking

"flame". After all this time using it I'm still tempted to touch the top to make sure it isn't overheating . It looks that real.

Recently I moved this unit to our Bedroom and put a Dimplex electric fireplace insert in the fireplace ( Dimplex Deluxe 23" insert ~ $300 on Amazon). I like it

very much, but I must admit I still prefer the "old stove" for the absolutely best looking flame. You can't go wrong with Dimplex. They are the Gold Standard for realistic electric fires.

We bought this stove four years ago for a cottage porch. It is absolutely beautiful! Wish I had another for my house. One year we brought it home for a while while the cottage was closed for the winter. So we LOVE IT!!!

We purchased this unit to help us heat a medium/large space in our 80 year old that isn't as well insulated or heated as the rest of the house. With the house thermostat set to 67 degrees, that room is 62 in the morning when we wake up and it's in the low 30s at night. So we got this heater...

Pros:

-nice looking

-heats the room rather well...about 2 degrees per hour (not fast, but it's not a big unit, but then will hold it there pretty well)

Cons

-thermostat in the back so a little hard to reach

-can't set a particular temperature, have to let the room get comfortable and then dial down until you hear a "click"

-thermostat seems rather sensitive (slightly further turning = room gets too cold/too warm)

-no timer to allow it to turn on automatically in the AM

-3-stage "on" settings where heat is the last stage...can't have JUST heat, must have fire as well. Air filter/blower WILL be on at all times if you want heat (cycle goes: fire on --> fire + blower on --> fire + blower + heater on)

All in all satisfied, but I wish it had a little more control over the temperature and I wish you could set it to have JUST heat on so it came on/off with thermostat.

Great looking stove, however, I find that there is no much heat thrown out. Over time the room does get heated but not very fast. My last stove had two fan speeds; which helped move the heated air much quicker. THis unit does not have that feature and I miss it.

Well constructed, heavy cast iron, very realistic fire and logs!

The thermostat is rated at a max of 7.4 amps so will only support a 1750W heater. This won't work for my heater and it would have been nice to know when ordering it.

I used this thermostat in a small pumphouse to switch on a heat lamp to keep it from freezing in the winter. Works great.
