This is a basic fireplace set, as you would expect from the price. The construction is hefty solid metal and it has a fairly simple, sleek look. However, the design of the tongs in this set is a bit lacking in that the handle parts don't lock together, or set into place in a secure way at all. So I "fixed" it by putting some black electrical tape in the right spot so it sticks in place, but without that the tongs would often fall open while hanging on the stand. Secondly, the brush we got is not the same as the nice, rustic looking brush pictured with this set. The brush we got is a boring little black square block at the bottom with black bristles attached. It works fine and was not enough of a disappointment to return it, just be aware that if you really care about that particular brush style, it's not what you're going to get.

It's simple and works fine (with minor modifications) and not quite as advertised--3 stars in my book.

Ordered on thing and got something completely different. The simple four-way footing seen in the image with four 'squared' handled tools has become an elongated two-sided stand. Did not return it due to it's still great quality metal, all the tools are there... It's just a different structure than what is pictured.

I have a good item, just not what I ordered.

The kit comes fully assembled, which is nice. However the Standard Poker now is a useless L shaped nub, and the brush is not buch bigger than a paintbrush. The log grabber is the only thing decent on this whole set. At least it was inexpensive...

The log pinchers don't stay hanging on the hooks they slide open and fall off so I have to keep it leaning against the wall. Not a defect just a simple design flaw!

To be fair, the unit does well on cool days (below 85). On hotter days, when you really need it, it barely keeps my 350 sq ft. appartment at 80. This is not my idea of comfort. In addition I don't cook in the apartment and I don't have massive southern exposure either so those excuses are not valid. This unit simply doesn't live up to the 14000 BTU rating (considering entire houses run just fine on 2 ton units). Called customer service today and they'll send a technician over, we'll see what happens but I don't think they'll consider it faulty. My impression so far is save your money and buy something better.

Update: Last time I reviewed this AC I'd just bought it. Obviously the technician didn't find it to be faulty he just said I was expecting too much with the weather outside (it was 95 or so outside). I've had it for 2 years now and it keeps the apartment (350-400 sq feet BTW) cool enough (72-74 degrees) on days where it's mildly hot (mid 80s) outside but it consistently fails to live up to the 14,000BTU rating when it's hotter and will leave the apartment at 80-85 degrees or so if it's getting to 95-100 degrees. I've kept it mainly because:

1) I'm at work most of the time and get home at night so this AC's failure isn't as annoying as it could be : )

2) I'd never get my money back

3) I suspect many floor standing models are just as poorly made and I really don't have many windows that I care to block. How much money will I waste to find one that works a little better?

I hope this helps.

I'll keep it short... This air conditioner is made with the cheapest materials possible. I bought this air condition last year, and three months later the fan broke. I opened up to see if I could do anything about it (and to confirm that it was in fact the fan the was causing the trouble), it turned out that it was in fact the fan that broke (basically shattered into pieces) and most of the material inside was STYROFOAM and cheap plastic... I'll never buy from this company again

I have used this unit for about 5 years. It has worked great as a backup unit at my small store when the main ac broke. I live near the ocean and window units rust away in no time. This unit is indoors and hooks up in minutes. It's fantastic for our older shore home because it can easily be moved from room to room. I have found it works just great in 90* temps because I used it last month during a heat wave. The heating feature is really nice because It will take the chill off the house in early morning without turning the heat on. My 95 year old mother loved it because she could keep the room she was in warmer than the rest of the house, great for us. This unit may not be for everyone, which might be why some don't like it. I love it and would buy another one.

1) Note that better prices can be had offline. I bought this product for $239 at an Asian grocery store and it came with a 20lb bag of rice to boot. I imagine the invoice price is around $200. Someone's making an insane amount of profit selling this for $400+.

2) This rice cooker produces moist, fluffy, chewy, textured rice that exceeds a vast majority of the restaurants out there, including those that cook individual portions of rice in stone pots. It will spoil you and make you a snob when it comes to rice. The menu has different settings for pretty much any kind of rice you want to cook like white (soft, regular, hard), brown, mixed, rinse-free, sushi, porridge, GABA, etc. You can keep the rice warm and tasting fresh for upto 24hr.

3) Good things take time, but this cooker pushes the limit of patience, taking ~50mins for white rice, ~75min for mixed rice, and upto 3.5hr for GABA rice. Fortunately, there's a timer so you can tell it to have rice done by say 6pm, as well as an express mode (25mins) when you are starving. Though still quite good, rice cooked in express mode tends to be slightly firmer and not as impressive as the regular mode. (Minus half star for long cooking time)

4) Compared to the $10 variety I used for a number of years, this one has more parts to clean. The non-stick bowl, the inner lid, and the steam vent needs cleaning after each use as you'd expect. In addition, you need to check if any debris is obstructing any of the sensors, holes, or vents. The air intake and exhaust located on the bottom of the cooker for dissipating heat needs an occasional vacuuming. (Minus half star for extra cleaning required)

5) This unit is rated at ~1230 watts, but that doesn't mean it's using that much electricity continuously like a hair dryer. The cooker turns the heat on and off as needed like an oven to maintain internal temperature and pressure. (Since posting this review, I measured the total electricity consumed by using a Kill A Watt 4460 meter and it came out to 3 cents per use.)

6) Back to the original question, is it worth it? This is really a personal decision based on your budget, utilization, and love for rice. My thought process was I could buy 16 x 20lb bags of rice, or get this rice cooker and enjoy that 1 bag of rice like I never have before. Finding it for $200+ cheaper sweetened the deal too.

I have never had a better more intuitive rice cooker than this Zojirushi! I am just sorry I had not purchased it sooner. It makes delicious brown rice (I have not tried the GABA yet, but I expect it to be par excelllence). The brown rice is the best that can be made as long as it is washed, as you should with all rice. I love trying new things to add to my brown rice and I am itchin' to try the GABA. I could not recommend this rice cooker with greater enthusiasm, delight and satisfaction.

I cooked Steel Cut Oats on the Porridge setting, and I could not have made it better; as a matter of fact, I was extremely pleased and mine, heretofore, never tasted as good.

I have been cooking rice with Japanese rice cookers for decades. When my last one failed after more than 20-years of service, I decided to buy the best replacement I could find, regardless of cost. (It's easy for me to justify paying a premium for a product I plan to use on a daily basis for decades.) After much research, I chose this one because it seemed to me that the Zojirushi induction pressure rice cookers were regarded as among the best rice cookers sold in US.

I am very happy with the build quality, look and convenience features of the product. However, after buying the rice cooker, I realized that pressure cookers produce rice that is too soft for my taste. I now know that many people prefer pressure rice cookers specifically because they produce super soft rice that doesn't adhere together too much. I prefer rice with a little more body. After corresponding directly with Zojirushi, I learned that the "soft", "medium", and "hard" settings can only be used when cooking white rice on the default setting, but not in any of the other settings (e.g., quick rice) or with any other grains (e.g., brown rice) and that white rice cooked on the "hard" setting in this cooker is roughly as hard as white rice cooked in a non-pressure cooker on the default setting.

I had eight people from three families individually compare high quality white and brown rice freshly cooked in this cooker and a budget one-button rice cooker in side-by-side blind taste tests. Everyone had surprisingly strong preferences, but their preferences were roughly equally split between rice cooked in the pressure cooker and budget cooker based on texture. Those who liked super soft rice thought the rice cooked in the Zojirushi was great. Those who didn't prefered the rice cooked in the budget cooker.

I rate this cooker with 1-star, while my wife would give it 5-stars, based solely on whether we happen to like super soft rice. I like everything about the cooker, except for the texture of the rice it produces. If I had my druthers, I would swap this pressure induction cooker for a non-pressure version from the same maker. Unfortunately for me, her vote is more equal than mine, especially in the kitchen....

Got this Pressure Rice Cooker and used it the next day. White rice came out better than any other rice cookers I have owned. It was a lot of money, but in my opinion, was so worth the cost. You get what you pay for, and in the case of this rice cooker, I got exactly that -one excellent cooker! Had no problems with it, just followed the directions and used their provided cup to measure level cups of raw rice. It is a 5 Star all the way!

Want Zojirushi NP-HTC10 Induction Heating 5-1/2-Cup (Uncooked) Pressure Rice Cooker and Warmer Discount?

The negative first: it's expensive and not for everyone (i.e. you do not eat rice a lot, and yet I am Asian).

The rest is nothing but positive. It looks good and makes fantastic rice. I don't quite understand how it does it, but this rice cooker manages to make brown rice the same consistency of white rice. If you and your family only casually eat rice, this is not the rice cooker for you, buy something a lot less expensive. If you eat rice more than once a week it is definitely worth it from my perspective. It is well designed and very easy to clean.

I bought this for a client. It did not work for their door. It had too many layers of moldings. The pads could not get a strong grip and could not support the weight of the garland. We ended up using 3M sticky hooks. I did keep it for myself and plan to try it next year for myself. The quality is very nice and it looks good above the doorways.

NOTE: just make sure you have about 3-4 inches of flat surface to mount it. Then is will be great!

I totally love this item, I used to have hooks to hang my Garland but with this holder now, I don't need them, very easy to set up and once you have it set up, you will not need to do it again, because it has a nut and screw that come off at the center that allows it to fold a little, allowing it to release from the area that is on, but you do need at lease 2" on each side for it to grab against. Love it and would recommend to anyone

We got our Azure Blue Modfire after seeing it at the Dwell Show in LA 3 years ago. Took about 5 months to get it (due to the overwhelming popularity of the product). The functionality and the design is really cool, but the surface finish doesn't do so well in a beachy environment. We live 1km from the ocean and after a year our unit started showing effects of the weather with cracky-peely paint. We recommend this product, or dry environments. If you love inland or in the desert you'll do just fine.

iHeater IH-1500 Quartz Infrared Heater Best Value on Amazon

I am very pleased with this product. It lives up to all they say about it, with possibly one exception. It costs more than a $1 a day to run. It did raise my electric bill considerably, but it lowered my gas bill as well. I've given it one less star than top rating because dealers are misrepresenting the cost to operate.

What is so great is that I was much more comfortable running this heater. It keeps my whole home (granted, a small home 1100 sq feet) warm. It is such a comfortable, even heat. Not like my forced air furnace which makes the room either too hot or too cold about 50% of the time. And the heat is even throughout the house, unlike the furnace where some rooms are too warm and some too cold. I don't feel the drafts as much, the air isn't dry and I don't have to run a humidifier. My furnace rarely kicks in.

It is hard to believe that a small compact unit can do such a big job and do it safely. Only the small output area gets hot. Having a remote and being easily programmable is a definite plus also.

I am so pleased I made this purchase.

I ordered one of these after I got a $460 power bill in this crazy winter in the mid-Atlantic region, after the power company raised their rates through the ceiling and I read the reviews on what an incredible innovation in heating this unit is. It's a nice space heater; looks great, great controls, very quiet, etc. But it is what it is a 1500 Watt space heater. It won't cut your electric bill in half, unless you're willing to freeze in the process. The hype is transparent to me now, and I could have spent a lot less for the same heating output, though it certainly wouldn't have been as nicely adorned wi5h features that are expensive but in the end add nothing to the real goal...staying warm cheaply!

I had the opportunity to use two of these units. I had an area of about 500 square feet to cover and thought that this would work well at supplementing the heat from electric baseboard heating.

This heater works a little different in that it does not really increase the temperature of spaces. It is designed to maintain the temperature in a room after you have getten it high enough using your main heat sources. They said to leave it on continuously for two days to bring all of the surfaces up to temperature and then turn down your main heat source about 10 degrees and let the heater maintain the temperature.

Unfortunately, the heater was not able to maintain the temperature very long at all and the unit remained on all of the time so I was burning through about 36KWH per day just for the iHeater in addition to the cost of running the electric baseboard heat which ran quite a bit as well. In my application, the energy costs were actually higher for me than they were before using the iHeater. In addition, the heat was very uneven across the area being covered. The unit does not blow that much air through it so it has a real limited coverage area, and that was on the 1500 square foot setting.

This might work in a very small room but not in any larger spaces. I had much greater hopes for this product than it was able to deliver on.

I purchased my iHeater 1500 last week. Living in SE North Carolina, our temperatures aren't that bad. But as soon as we hit the 40's, I stayed cold. I set heater at highest level (1500 sq. ft.) and left it on for 2 days solid trying to warm it. It was cold even in the one room it was in. Yes, I kept my heat pump at 65 hoping this would help maintain that throughout my house but at least make the room it was in warmer. It says it heats up the elements. It may have heated them up, which I could not tell it did anything, but my hands and feet both stayed cold. Kinda feel like one guy said, it's pretty much like have a $30 quartz heater you can buy at Walmart. As a matter of fact, I have one of those and it heats the room better and uses the same amount of electricity. Sure wish I could say better things because I really wanted to save on my heating bill. But I can't . It' definitely not worth it.

Want iHeater 1500 SQ FT Infrared Heater Discount?

We recently had 2 of the 1500 model iHeaters bought for us as gifts from my parents. After getting them I looked at some of the reviews online and never really felt like I got very good information. At least I never saw anything written on how to actually use the heaters... I understood the concept -"your central heat doesn't turn on as much and therefore you save money". Made sense to me but what were the best settings to use? What should I expect? Etc...

Here's some background which should be useful:

This particular house I'm heating is a double-wide trailer, therefore it doesn't have Pella windows and isn't insulated like a brick & mortar home "should" be. We live in the mountains of Western NC. When we moved into this home the previous owner had just installed a brand new propane-powered central heating unit -it is NICE and it puts out the warmest heat I've felt from any central unit. The unit was so new that last winter was its first winter to actually be used. Last winter my parents were living with us, and as many people getting up in their years, they were both cold-blooded -so all winter they kept the thermostat at 72 degrees. 72 degrees meant that we paid somewhere around $500 every 6 weeks for propane! My parents moved out last spring and got us the 2 iHeaters to try this winter -paying $500 every 6 weeks for propane (excluding any electric bills) seemed ridiculous! I guess they figured that anything could help and nothing could hurt, so why not an iHeater (or 2).

Open the Box, Read the Directions:

At first the iHeaters seemed nothing more than "Ok". I got them when it was still warm outside and I was undoubtedly prejudging them. Mine are the fake wood models which I didn't find all that aesthetically pleasing. They didn't seem to put on a very "warm" heat in comparison to a ceramic heater. I needed to remember that the iHeater wasn't a ceramic heater and was actually meant to save money, which the hot-heat of a ceramic does not do. I thought the remote was cool and the back lighting looked good. I have 2 young children and these seemed very safe, which is important. I liked the fact the iHeaters are on rollers. For some reason I really like the oversized power button on the back of the unit. I needed to hold off on most of my judgments until I got them into action during the winter.

As I stated above, I didn't really know how to set them or what to expect. The directions that come with the iHeaters are no help. As an example, one of the iHeater settings says: "Small Room/Medium Room/Large Room". The only thing the directions tell you about these settings is that they are on the unit and can be controlled by the remote... What do they actually do? What is considered a small room and what is considered a large room? You have to find that out on your own I suppose. I honestly still don't exactly know what these buttons are for. I don't know if changing the room size setting changes the angle of the heat exiting the iHeater. I thought changing the room size setting might change the fan speed, but the best I can tell, it doesn't. Perhaps it somehow changes the fan setting or heat setting to use less electricity? I just have no idea...

One of the 2 iHeater units that we got has an extremely loud fan (in comparison to the other model 1500) and will have to be sent back to be fixed before the 1-year warranty runs out. If I didn't know how quiet the other unit was I would think it is normal (meaning it is not unbearable or anything). The unit that has the quiet fan is extremely quiet -you can hardly tell it is running. I returned my warranty cards and registered online with iHeater as soon as I got the unit out and realized how loud the fan was in comparison to the other unit. The faulty fan allowed me the opportunity to call iHeater and speak with their customer service. The young lady I spoke with had no accent and sounded young. Since it had been over a month since I registered the warranty she was able to pull up my information from their system easily. I have to admit that I was not very impressed with iHeaters customer service representative, at all, but between her coughing and gagging into her headset (and my ear!), she gave me the information I needed. It definitely seemed like talking to me on the phone was the last thing on her mind. It was almost comical how disinterested she was. I literally thought of the Discovery card "This is Peggy" commercial. Heh.

FIY: iHeater simply told me to box the unit back up and ship it to their Indianapolis, Indiana facility. They had pretty specific directions about how to box and ship the unit. I was told that I would have to pay to ship it to them and they would either fix it or replace it and get it back to me. I have since decided that I would keep the loud-fanned unit for this winter before sending it back. I simply am saving too much money to lose it for no telling how long (in the middle of winter).

Winter is Here! Running the IHeater:

One of the keys to using the iHeater is finding the right thermostat level between your central heat thermostat and your iHeater thermostat settings (the sweet spot). We found that if the central heat is set at 68 degrees the iHeaters (2 running at the same time in different parts of the house) will put out enough heat that our central heat will not kick on AT ALL, all night long. Sometimes the central heat will kick on 3 or 4 times first thing in the morning, but that's it. This example is when the outside temperature daytime highs are around 32 degrees Fahrenheit and the nighttime lows are from 10 15 degrees Fahrenheit.

Again, we have 2 iHeaters so we had to find the right thermostat level for EACH iHeater unit. One is set at 77 degrees and one is set at 72 degrees. With the discrepancy in settings between units this may mean that one of them is giving a faulty thermostat reading -not sure. There is also a big difference between the iHeater thermostat and the central heat thermostat -not sure why? At any rate, with these settings (77 & 72) both units will kick on and off if the daytime highs are in the high 30s and above. If the daytime highs outside are in the low 30s, both units will pretty much run all day long; however, the central heat thermostat level will not fall below 68 degrees and therefore the central heat unit will not engage, at all. The iHeaters are heating the entire house on their own to 68 degrees.

If my central heat's thermostat is set on 69 degrees the central heat will still turn on and off all night long. I'm not sure if the central heat runs as often, or not; however, I can for certain say that it runs on multiple times each hour. Again, while running the iHeaters the central heating unit does not turn on at all, but there is a big difference with the central heat between what happens at 68 degrees verses what happens at 69 degrees. 68 degrees is the "sweet spot" that you want to look for if you have an iHeater -the temperature where your central unit does not cycle. I submit that if I had better insulation and windows the "sweet spot" would be 70 or above. I would expect that the cost savings would greatly increase, too.

As winter approached I paid close attention to my electric bills and to my propane level. The propane tank started the winter in October at 41% full. At the beginning of December (after 2 months of weather cold enough to use the central heat, and one month of weather cold enough to use the central heat all day long every day) the propane reading was 37% full. So I only used 4% of the propane in the tank during October and November. Our usual "summer" electric bill was around $100 per month. Our November electric bill was $160. Obviously the iHeaters used quite a bit of electricity ($30 a day to be exact); however, the enormous savings in propane easily offset any electric costs (I really need the electric bills from last November -my guess is that the bill was close to $150 just powering the central heating unit). I suspect that the electric bill will go up substantially in December since the iHeaters are running more often. As I mentioned, when the outside temperatures are at or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit all day long, the iHeaters pretty much run all day, nonstop.

We are more than happy with the cost savings, so far. I feel that if I had better windows, doors and better insulation I could save much more money, but I'm not going to fault iHeater for the construction practices of trailer manufacturers. I figure you know something is good when directly out of the box it is not running like it should -which leads you to find out that the customer service is laughable -not only do those things not bother you, but you wouldn't give the item up for the world because you are saving so much money by using it!

A must have for the fire pit. I expected something more flimsy. It's actually pretty solid and definitely better than the cheap junk the fire pits come with. The hooked end will work to lift the cover off the firepit. The other will allow for poking, pushing and pulling without worrying about breaking it. It's nice and long too so no worries of getting burned unless you've got a bonfire going in your fire pit... But I think you've got more to worry about at that point.

First of all, ignore the one star review. If you can't take time to research what you intend to buy, then you deserve to be dissapointed.

I installed this heater along with a basic honeywell thermostat in my bedroom. I live in an old home, so heating is a pain. Being only 1000 watts, it doesn't heat super fast, but I can definitively say that it can get and maintain a much more comfortable room temp than the fan forced heater it replaced. Being that it is mounted onto the wall, it is completely out of the way.

The unit seems well made and so far I haven't had any issues with it. Even when the thermostat turns it on full heat, it is silent And makes no creaking sounds. The quiet even heat is absolute bliss when I lay down to rest for the night. I had gotten use to fan heaters so much that now it is almost eerie how quiet the room is.

With my experience having this heater, im going to be buying more of their heaters.

This 'Cadet' stuff is a misrepresented farce. It should be in a building supply online store and not in home products. People are looking here in 'amazon' for a unit with a thermostat that they can plug into a wall socket and get heat not for a partially assembled non-functioning unit that will need a thermostat and special tools and skill to hopefully work. It doesn't plug into a wall socket, you need to connect 'supply wires' to it! just look at what is required to get a 'Cadet' baseboard heater to work at . In the video it states that if you are not able to assemble this yourself, you should get a licensed electrician to do it. Oh yes, at $50/hr! the electrician would wind up costing more than the unit! I am used to buying something that states what you are getting, this unit description states what you are NOT getting with an ambiguous 'no' that could be mistaken for 'number'. This company apparently floods an online store with partially assembled non-functioning items that can be listed at a lower price and overshadow the few really good working items. I sent the 'heater' and 'thermostat' back for a refund and bought a somewhat higher priced functioning unit that came with a thermostat and wall socket power cord and gave me good heat right away.

I only buy fake logs, and they would break up and fall below my grate long before the 3 or 4 hours they were suppose to burn. This retainer prevents that from happening, and I am enjoying my fireplace a lot more this season.

By keeping the embers in the grate and off the fireplace floor your fires will burn longer, warmer and more efficiently, with less maintenance.
