Sorry to read another reviewer who had problems with his Model 157. Mine has worked perfectly for several months now. I chose the Model 157 rather than the Model 154 in spite of that reviewers comments. I'm glad I did.

UPDATE: It has been working perfectly for over a year now!

I installed it above the open stall of my elderly mother's doorless shower directly in the rising mist and high humidity. I run it (and another 1250 watt portable heater) for several minutes before her shower and total running time each use is probably about 30-45 minutes. It has never failed and the (large) bathroom warms up a LOT. Haven't measured the temperature, but it gets "toasty" in there (and as humid as a sauna.) I was worried the high temperature and moisture would be an issue, but they have not been a problem. In other words, it gets plenty warm in there without tripping any high-temperature safety feature in the unit.

I chose the Model 157 because of the heavy-duty element. It takes a couple minutes to fully heat up to red-hot, but that's fine. I think it will last a lot longer than the thin spiral wire element of the Model 154. In my opinion, it's well worth the extra cost.

I bought this item to replace one that had gone bad after 40 years. It was an 85 year old lady friend of mine and she said I was a 'gift from God' after I put it in. This was the easiest bathroom appliance I have ever had to istall. A monkey could put this in. a silicone grommett or washer for the screw holding the screen on could cut down on some chatter/vibration I heard. Other than that it works great.

This heater is great...it really cranks out the heat. I live in an older house, and replaced the Broan model 158. However, I've learned the hard way that the thermal switch on this unit is not reliable. Once the unit turns itself off via the thermal switch, it won't come back on. I've went through three thermal units before I learned my lesson. With the 158 the thermal switch would reset itself and I would be able to use the unit again. So if you really want this unit, buy a timer switch to go with it.

If I had to do it over again, I wish I would have gone with another 158. It worked fine on the old fashioned toggle switch.

Was looking for a bit of supplemental heat in master bathroom on cold mornings. We already have wall lighting, nice ceiling vent fan but found this for a bit more heat to replace another ceiling light fixture, didnt want or need another light or fan combo. I also bought a timer to replace flip switch, my fear being might be left on all day by accident. This replaced a ceiling mounted light fixture pefectly, gives off a fair amount of heat after 5 min or so and was pretty reasonably priced, looks ok more flat platinum color than bright chrome/silver, but works well for the money spent with no other home modifications.Got what we wanted.

This heater looks nice & was not difficult to install. It just does not heat the small area as well as I thought it would.

I knew it would not "throw" a lot of heat but you have to stand really directly under it to feel it.

I use two oil-filled heaters to heat my living room, dinning room and kitchen, which is an open area without walls with an area of about 600 sq ft. There were a few problems with this method. Oil-filled heaters take a long time to heat a large area and all the heat goes straight up. The Dimplex heater solved these problems.

In the morning it would take two or three hours to raise the temperature by 3 or 4 degrees. I replaced one of the oil-filled heaters with the Dimplex. Now, it takes half the time to get the house warm. Another advantage of the Dimplex is that it has a quite fan that gently blows the heat from the bottom onto the floor. Before it was very warm in the house, but the floor was like ice. Now, the heat is more evenly distributed and the floor is much warmer. I can feel the heat on the floor from over ten feet away.

The thermostat, which is just a round knob without any markings, does a good job at regulating the heat. You turn the knob up on high then when it gets warm enough you turn the knob down until you hear a click. To make it easier you could put marks on the knob so that you can better tell where to set the knob. You can also turn off the heat and just watch the flames on the logs. It has a remote that plugs into the wall outlet and you plug the heater into the remote.

At first glance, the flaming logs look very realistic. When you turn the unit completely off it still looks like there are embers burning. I assume it is because there are a few very small places on the logs that appear to have reflective colored mirrors. It is a very nice feature and makes the stove look even more realistic. I built a 2-inch high 2x2 foot freestanding hearth out of ceramic tile on a plywood base and placed it on my carpet with the heater on top. This adds to the illusion of realism and protects the carpet. Since the heater does not get hot on the top, I placed an ivy plant on it just for a little decoration. I love the whole look that it creates.

The Dimplex stove solved my heating problems. It is small enough to fit anywhere. It is portable so that I can either move it to any location or store it in the summer and it looks great. I highly recommend this heater.

Really trying to cut down on the oil use this year, so we're adding a couple of electric heaters. I got this for the den/tv room which is a decent size, but fairly well-enclosed. This thing is so easy to use, the flame looks great (kind of bizarre actually I forget it's fake) and in a short time it really heats the whole room quite comfortably. They say it's very economical to run (I'll see), but for the cost of about a quarter tank of oil it's great!

Buy Dimplex CS4416 Compact Electric Stove Now

Quite a bit cheaper to run than my gas wall furnace and the flames look real enough. The only problem is that the motor that makes the flames move died after about two months and acehardwareoutlet only takes returns for 30 days after purchase. Anyway, Dimplex/Electralog is sending a new motor for free since they don't take returns at all and perhaps I'll have better luck this time. So if you're not comfortable with the idea of installing your own replacement parts you might want to find another option.

UPDATE:

Alright, the motor came in about 2 weeks and was a 15 rpm motor as opposed to the 10 rpm motor that was originally installed so the flame effect is a bit faster now but still fairly realistic. It took maybe an hour to install and isn't something I'd want to do every two months so I'm hoping that this one lasts a bit longer. I'll keep my review updated as conditions warrant but for now I'm happy to report that my 4416 is back in 100% working order and pumping out the BTU's.

We bought this stove for our condo Christmas 2007. It gives a realistic (close enuf) flame and plenty of heat. We enjoy it very much. However, it doesn't last more than a few years. By Christmas 2010, the plastic translucent backing behind the fire image had rotted and fallen away exposing the light bulb and other 'innards' that nullified the cozy fire effect. Electralog told us we would have to get a new stove because it was 'non-repairable' as far as they were concerned. You can fix it yourself tho if you disassemble the back of the stove unit, find a similar plastic at a hardware store, and re-adhere it to the unit. That's what we ended up doing and it works fine now but you shouldn't be having these kind of problems with a product that's only 3 years old.

I got this electric stove last year because it was on sale and I needed a new space heater. This is the first electric heater I've ever had with the dancing flames feature. I totally love it. This heater makes a great substitute for a Franklin stove (and you don't have to buy, store or haul any wood or worry about leaving the embers of a live fire unattended). It's really nice to be able to have instant heat with the flip of a button and a turn of the temperature setting dial OR if you are just in the mood for the dancing flames of a fire on a summer evening, you can have that too without the heater being on! I love my stove and I'm really glad I got it. It's a constant source of comfort and joy.

I bought two of these and spent almost $700 and I am VERY DISSAPOINTED with their performance. You can't even feel the heat unless you are about a foot away from the unit. I live in California where it doesn't really get that cold in the winter but I was interested in saving money on my heating bill and this thing won't even heat my bedroom. The mantle is oak plywood, not solid oak as advertised. The only good thing about them is that they look nice. The Amish are being used as a marketing tool to sell these fireplaces. All of the parts come from China and are assembled by Amish in Ohio, so don't expect good Amish craftsmanship because you won't get it with a Heat Surge Electric Fireplace.

I purchased this item to heat a small trailer. After reading all the hype the company provides I thought this would be a good alternative heat source. NOT SO. When I called the company to return the item you are put thru the hoops. Your on hold for hours at a time. Just trying to talk to someone to get the return shipping label issued. In the meantime the company takes their sweet time in issueing the UPS return. You have 30 days to return the item... or your stuck with it. This includes from the time it was sent to you from the warehouse, weekends & holidays. Then they have the nerve to charge you $50.00 for the return. This is a decorative item, not a single heat sourcesomething they don't bother to mention anywhere. It took them 24hrs to collect my money & 6wks to get my partial refund. If there had been a rating of -0 this would have rated it

It's shocking to me that people would pay $350 for a heater that puts out the exact same amount of heat as a $19.95 heater available at most major retail stores. If you read the specification, the heater in the HeatSurge fireplace is a 1,500 watt quartz ceramic heater.

And guess what? My local Target has a whole section full of 1,500 quartz ceramic heaters for less than...$30 each. In fact, I bought a 1,500 watt quartz ceramic heater at Target for $19.95, and it works great! The one I bought for $19.95 works so good I bought several more for my house, one for my Mom, one for my Dad, and two for my sister, all at $19.95 each! Actually, some were on sale after Christmas for $14.95 each, and others were two for $20! Nice. And warm.

We are living from pay to pay. Bought one of these used, BUT like new (trying to save money on exorbitant propane fees). Used it for one SPRING month. Electric bill went from about $115 to $340.

I don't know how we're going to put food on the table next week.

Want Heat Surge Fireplace with Amish Made Mantle Oak Discount?

The hype from Heat Surge sounds convincing but is misleading.

The heater itself is no miracle of technology. Any 1500 watt electric heater will produce the same amount of heat. It's just the fact of elctrically produced heat. The difference is how well the heat is distributed.

The heat surge has a two speed blower that forces heated air out the vents along the top of the heater. That heated air then rises to the ceiling and eventually may fill the room with heat.

I put the Heat Surge in a basement room with no door. All the heat went up the stairs and my electric bill went up $75 per month. So much for saving money!

The "Amish built" mantel looks nice, but upon close inspection your will find that the "solid wood" is plywood with a laminate or veneer covering.

The "flickering flames" are an optical illusion produced by a scrolling acetate film in front of two chandelier bulbs. The "flames" on mine frequently stop moving becuase the belt that drives the acetate film developed a flat spot.

See Consumer Reports to find musch better values on portable heaters.

For my money, I would recommend going to WalMart and buying a $25 electric heater. It won't look as nice, but you will feel just as warm, maybe warmer.

Bellow was just what I needed. The only complaint I would have is that the string to hang it by is pretty flimsy, but if it broke it would be really easy to replace and isn't even that big a deal that I would minus any stars. Just what you want if you're looking for decent bellows for your fire place.

How have I lived without this for so long? It works like a charm! The ribbon broke fairly quickly, but that is easy enough to replace with something a little more sturdy. We now fight over who gets to tend to the fire.

It works pretty well and I'm glad to have it. However, the next time I buy a bellows I will search for something else.

The "leather" on this bellows is rather flimsy. I'm not sure that its actually leather. After a month of use, its starting to show some wear. I expect that it will develop a hole soon and the bellows will need to be replaced.

As far as power goes, I can blow on the fire just about as effectively as this bellows can. I've used more powerful bellows before.

This fireplace rack/tool set is made in the USA and high quality. Heavy not flimsy! The real deal! Looks awesome in the room not some cheap set of fireplace tools in the corner. For all of that, you do pay a higher price. But if quality is your desire, I think you will be happy w this. We are quite pleased.

The other reviewer noted to watch the 2 different bolt sizes. The two sizes are noted in the instructions but the lengths are similar, and the difference is subtle, so just watch. There are very few parts to put together. The assembly should have taken 5 minutes. But we had one difficulty. There are two bolts at the top that you need to unscrew and change out w longer bolts (to hold the tool rack). Those first bolts were on so so tight. Initially, neither I nor my husband could loosen the original bolts. He had the great idea of inserting the short-armed little allen wrench (that comes with it) into a larger random metal pipe we had lying around so we could get more leverage. That worked like a charm. After that, all was just great.

This fits great in the little space I have around my fireplace (My house was build with a fireplace and nowhere to put wood). The rack is solidly built and looks great. Fit and finish are very good. The shovel and the poker work great and I have yet to use the broom. The only problem I had in assembly is that two of the bolts are slightly longer to allow for the depth of the tool rack and I didn't recognize this until I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the rack to fit (I put the longer bolts on the base). Other than that assembly was very easy and it included the only tool needed (an allen key). I am very happy with mine and would recommend it wholeheartedly.

Bought these for the holiday season for added fun. I'm surprised at how bright the blues and greens are. The colors are vivid and I feel that pictures do not do it justice. Sprinkling these over the unlit logs on top of the fire allow the crystals to fall into little nooks and crevices, which end up being little surprise flashes of color as the fire matures. I'll be buying these again once my two cans run out.

These space heaters will turn off for various reasons. I live in a leaky apartment with no heaters. This is enough to heat a small apartment like mine, but as of this morning I have absolutely had it with this heater. This is the coldest it's been this winter and I can't have this thing turning off while I'm sleeping. That's the whole reason I woke up and am writing this; I hate waking up with scratchy lungs from the freezing cold. I'm giving this product 3 stars because some of you might want a space heater that turns it's self off. I have noticed that it will turn off for the the following reasons: if it falls over onto it's face (which is great because who wants their floor to melt?), if there is anything too close in front of it, and if their is too much moisture in the air.

I purchased this around November 2012 and it died today while burning it's plug and my wall socket. I will have to replace the wall plugs and return the heater. It was a noisy heater, yes but it did get warm. It was NOT on when it somehow started to burn on half the plug. Thank goodness I smelled burning plastic and unplugged it before any actual fire. I will not buy this brand again if I can help it.

I have not had the problems that Moniker reports in another review. In an effort to keep down heating costs, I've decided to try space heaters this year, and so far, the Pelonis heater has worked perfectly. I've kept it on almost all the time. This does not mean that it's been pouring out heat the entire time. For much of the time, it's been idle, waiting for the temperature to dip low enough to cause the heater to come on. And it's worked perfectly.

I use this heater in a relatively small room--about 120 square feet--with small animals that I don't want exposed to too much cold at night. So far, all is great. I have two minor quibbles, but they are truly minor, at least when compared to the cost (under $20 when I bought it). The first quibble is that the thermostat is not very accurate, and there is no degree setting, meaning that I cannot set the thermostat for 74 degrees or anything like it. I have to set the thermostat by feel. The second quibble is that the fan itself is not all that strong. I've tried to use just the fan in order to test it, and let's put it this way: I don't think I'll be using this heater in the summer to try to keep cool. Still, as a heater for a small room, it's worked perfectly.

One additional note: As I write this, there is one other review, which reports that the fan shuts off if there is too much moisture in the air. I live in a dry climate, so I cannot say one way or the other whether excessive moisture presents a real problem.

This heater is dynamite! it heats my 800 sq ft shop, no problem. If i turn it up 3/4 of the way, it will be 75 degrees! Does a great job, runs fairly quite. I even use my shop for an office, and can talk on the phone with out a problem while it runs. electric bill is up only 100 and that is keeping my shop at 55 degrees when i not out there and at least 70 to 75 when i am, and that is alot. Worth the money! I did tape up drafty spots in the shop and put insulation in the attic. FYI

I plan to insulate/drywall my unfinished garage next spring. Currently it's about 40% insulated, and a thick vapor barrier is attached to the ceiling joists. The space measures 20' X 19', with a 10' ceiling.

Amazon shipped the unit in no time flat. Was immediately impressed by the no-nonsense construction of this thing. Heavy gauge steel throughout, 3 large sealed heating elements with hundreds of fins brazed to the elements. Large 5-bladed fan with a huge drive motor. Not to mention the weight at 36 pounds, this is no milkhouse heater.

Installation was pretty simple. I had already installed the wall bracket and roughed in the electric service. Took about 40 minutes from unpacking to fully operational.

Energized the service breakers and fired it up. This unit pushes an awful lot of air, yet the blower is surprisingly quiet. No, it's not whisper-silent, but fan noise is quite tolerable. Another thing that struck me is the complete lack of any vibration or jitter the motor shaft and fan blade are balanced nicely. Quality.

Starting temp inside was 50 degrees, it was 37 degrees outside. One hour of continuous operation, and the inside temp was a tad over 60. Two hours of running, and the garage was now at a toasty 70 degrees. Backed off the thermo, and checked the temp a couple hours later. It was holding steady at 58, and cycling on about 3 times per hour. Once up to temp, the unit does not kick in for very long.

Time will tell what impact it has on my electric bill, but I'm not kidding myself 5000 Watts is a hefty amount of power. Have to keep it set low until the garage is fully insulated.

For most folks, I would suggest that you mount it using the optional wall bracket. The ceiling bracket supplied with the unit only has 6 inches of clearance between the ceiling and the top of the elements. In my opinion, that's not enough of a safety margin. Check out my review of this bracket, it's available on Amazon:

I've been looking for a chair like this for years, but never got around to buying one until recently. The assembly was surprisingly easy given how many parts came in the box. The design and build quality is good overall, but here are the reasons I'd say it's only "ok" and I don't "love it":

(1) It's vinyl, not leather. The type of vinyl chosen feels cheaper to me than some other vinyls. BMW, Mercedes, and Audi for example all use a high-quality "leatherette" that feels like leather but is actually more durable and easier to clean. Not that I'd expect the same quality of leatherette as in a luxury car, but given the steel and wood frame (which are of high quality), I would have been willing to spend a few extra bucks on nicer leatherette.

(2) It's Chinese. The chair comes with a faint smell of volatile organic compounds and tons of Styrofoam packaging and tape.

(3) The chair squeaks a bit even with all the bolts and nuts tightened down.

(4) The side table is a bit odd in that it cannot stay locked in one place. It swings back and forth along a horizontal plane-even if at times you don't want it to.

(5) The biggest problem with this chair overall is one huge design flaw: There is no real mechanical way to lock the chair in the upright, reclined, or in-between positions. There is instead a friction locking mechanism applied by tightening down a screw knob. You really have to screw it down extremely tight and-even then-you occasionally get a surprise while trying to sit up, when the chair suddenly wants to recline.

Given the relatively low cost of the chair, I'm going to keep it. But I will be keeping my eyes open for a higher quality version.

Originally, we'd planned to replace the unit with the same brand, but Ambient was double the price (?) and as we couldn't order directly from Amazon, but were redirected to the Ambient site, they wanted us to pay somewhere around $11 for shipping.

So, not seeing that there was any additional value for the extra money, we decided to give the Skytech controller a try. Voila! It works like a charm, and unlike our previous Ambient unit, was very easy to set and control. One thing though, don't try to install this if you're not qualified to do so. My hubby is a master electrician, so this was a no-brainer for him. But for a person with no experience, please ask for help. (Safety first!)

The unit is really basic, with only an On-Auto-Off Switch and the remote control also has only On-Off-Timer-Set on its face. In a world where we are inundated with fancy gadgetry, it's nice to see a simple way to warm yourself by the fire. Buy it!

After enduring five hot summers in my new place, I finally decided to get a portable room air conditioner to help beat the heat.

After a little bit of searching, I settled upon this Sharp unit. I liked its clean styling and the easy installation diagrams it featured on the outside of the box. The $50 instant rebate offered at the time also helped -a lot.

The unit comes with various panels to aid in the outside venting installation. The 5" diameter flexible hose seemed kind of g-normous coming out of the box. But its semi-rigid construction has a built in screw-like segmentation which makes it easy to hand twist the hose into the a) the unit itself and b) into the window adapter no tools required. How cool is that?

It took me about 20 minutes to install the window adapter and frame into my outside window (with just a bit of drilling and screwing).

But when I turned the unit on I couldn't believe 1) how quiet the unit was and 2) how really cold the air was coming out of it. Halleluiah!

My two cats watched curiously as I set the unit up. But they both managed to find favorite spots downwind which have now become their preferred nesting places during the day. Who says cats are dumb?

The a/c vents on the front seemed small at first. But they open automatically (to help keep the unit clean) and their limited size actually helps to increase the speed of the air flow for greater projection.

I've closed the doors to all of my other rooms to confine the cool air to the kitchen/dining room and living room. I have no idea how close this area comes to the suggested 400 square foot maximum. My place has built-in air-conditioning, but I'm really looking forward to seeing if I can do without it for the entire summer.

After living with a myriad of room fans and even an indoor dehumidifier (which was a lot louder and vented its own heat out of the back) I can already tell this is shaping up to be the most comfortable summer I've yet to experience.

The Sharp portable a/c comes with a hand remote which is used to control the settings. There is only a power switch and some indicator lights on the unit itself. I use the automatic control to set a desired temperature and the unit does the rest. Also, when the programmed temperature is reached the unit goes to a reduced output mode with a bit of cool air still coming out. Nice.

But even when the unit is running it is still a lot quieter than my numerous tower fans and my old room dehumidifier. It's also much, much quieter than my dishwasher. And almost as quiet as my refrigerator when it's going.

I also went outside to see how much air flow was coming out and it was surprisingly quite a lot. And the exhaust temperature was fairly warm which indicated to me how much of a heat transfer was actually taking place. Nice.

Since I use my dining table as my desk when I work at home having the Sharp portable a/c just yards away makes me as cool as I've always wanted to be year `round.

Will my overall energy bill go down by having this new Sharp portable a/c unit? I can't see why not since I'm not cooling my entire place. However, only time will tell.

For now I couldn't be happier or more comfortable. I think it's shaping up to be a really cool summer. If you can afford the up-front cost it's worth it. Please, don't miss out.

Have you ever purchased something that turned out to be even better than you expected? Of course. Well that's the feeling I have with this quiet and powerful little dynamo. First, rather than repeat the exceptional lead review by Aaryanna, one which echoes my sentiments to a tee, I will add to her exposition by explaining the title of my review. PlasmaClusters! Who knew? Aaryanna had so much to say about the A/C's features she was too tired to talk about the ions. All I wanted was a sturdy and reliable portable A/C for my bedroom. I live in the San Fernando Valley of So. California and right about June 20th to July 1st when the temperature hits 95F for the first time, the daytime temps will seldom dip below 88 again until about, um I don't know, Labor Day. Night temps will mostly stay above 80F and can average 85F for a week at a time. I have a one bedroom apartment with the unit's own built-in wall air-conditioner in the living room only. Last year on the hottest nights I'd set up a three fan series starting at the air-conditioner with a second fan midway to my back bedroom and the final fan around the small corner leading into the bedroom itself. As you might imagine, this jury-rigged little setup was not only inefficient, but required me to run the wall A/C at full blast all night to get even four or five degrees of relief. Not cheap! You can imagine from Aaryanna's review, this A/C marvel is just what the doctor ordered. Now I wonder what took me so long.

What I didn't expect was the patented Sharp Ion Generator. What kind of of little doodad could this be? Fries with that double cheeseburger sir? Just Google Plasmaclusters, wow! This is no gimmick, hence the patent! There are pretty expensive Sharp Ion Generator units sold all over the world that do only one thing and very well at that. They scrub your air of harmful microbes, dirt, and pesky viruses in a patented way that has little to do with all of the other ideas you may have had about ion air cleaning machines. Are you ready for this? There is a "REFRESHER" function which when activated will cleanse the odors of any garments you choose to place in front of the unit, including simply placing the unit in front of your closet and de-odorizing your entire wardrobe. I won't bore you with particulars, that's what Google is for. Check it out.

So, I've got a great air conditioner, a great dehumidifier, a great room air venter, and a first class sleep mode no louder than a good frig. But who knew it was going to be one of the healthiest things I've ever had? I would have paid the same money for the A/C qualities alone. It's as if they threw in the Ion Generator out of their concern for my health! Who knew???

I used the 2 reviews that were already here to help me buy this product. I was not disappointed. The Midwest is in the middle of a heat wave. I installed this unit around 6 PM and our berdroom cooled down enough to sleep well that night. The next night was even better, as we leave the unit on. We have a second floor bedroom that is above our garage, so there is heat coming from everywhere. We were freezing out the rest of the house using the central A/C, but now have turned that up to 80 degrees, and use this unit in the bedroom.

The unit is very quiet at night. We put the fan on low. It provides a very nice "white noise" which covers up the traffic noise very nicely. The unit works so well, we have to burrow into the covers. Plus the ion generator leaves the room smelling fresh and clean.

Unit is very heavy, so you need to be careful when you get the package. But once it's out of the box, it does have wheels so it does move around easily.

My only complanit is the part that attaches in the window. I had to trim some off the flange, as my window was narrower than the flange, so that weakened it a little. I'm going to build my own and attach the exhaust hose to that as soon as the heat wave is over.

All in all, I highly recomend this unit. We're sleeping better than ever.

******UPDATE 05/05/2013******

I was pretty happy with the price and how effective it is at cooling the room, but the rattling was really getting to me. This was a refurb for 250.00, so I expected that it may not be perfect. So I took the housing apart to find out why is was soooo noisy. Dismantling was actually very easy. After removing the 2 screws at the bottom front, the front cover slides up and I was able to get to most of the problem area's. All it needed was some new foam buffers where the plastics were touching (very cheap fix).

That probably should have happened at the factory when it was refurbed. For that they loose 1 star.

Still, it is a pretty great unit. I hope I don't need to contact customer support. That looked like it was going to be a pain (automated voice system), I gave up...

Original post:

I live northern New Mexico. Summers get into the high 90's for a couple months, it gets to 100 or just above for a few day per year. Our house was built in the late 50's. The AC unit is for the master BR, an old enclosure of a 2 car garage, with old metal casement roll out windows from the 60's.

As far as installation, it might have been easy if I had modern sliding windows, but I don't. The only part of the included window adapters (which seem pretty well made) that I could use, was the vent port. I opted to remove 1 pane of glass (from a six pane window) to fit a piece of plexi glass with a hole cut for the vent port. It worked perfectly. I have the AC unit right under it, with the hose going straight up to it.

There is a good bit of heat generated that goes through the vent hose to the outside which heats the vent hose up considerably. When sitting close to it, you can feel the hose cancelling out some of the coolers effectiveness. I bought a 6 foot duct sleeve at the home depot for around $6.00 to insulate the hose and that made all the difference (it simply slips over the vent hose like a sleeve, duh. Then some tape or zips to hold it). I can't feel any heat from the hose now (Sharp should probably include that with the cooler).

The cooler does definitely cool the room down with NO trouble. The biggest issue that I have with it is that the plastic housing around the unit can rattles A LOT if it is not positioned just so... I have to mess with it for a bit to get it to stop chattering. I now have it propped up in the back with a 1 in piece of wood to keep it quiet. Other than that it works really well.

I wouldn't really consider it portable. It's just a good alternative to construction to add ducting...

I would recommend this AC unit, but I would not pay $500.00. I paid 250.00 for a referb.

Pros:

1. The unit showed up in two days!

2. Easy installation.

3. Cools effectively.

Cons:

1. I live in California and the weather has been quite warm. The unit's water tank fills up in 2-3 hours which automatically turns air conditioner off. To further compound my challenges with the unit, the only means to drain the water tank is wheel the entire unit outside. This is not an easy task due to the size of the unit. I would have expected a removable water tank at a minimum. Even better, would be a drain hose or other means to remove the water from the unit allowing it to run for longer periods of time required to allow this unit to cool the room. All in all, unless I am open to wheeling the unit outside several times a night to drain the water tank, this unit is ineffective for my requirements. The support line, although I received conflicting responses, indicated I can attach a hose to the water tank drain allowing me to drain the water tank either outside or to an indoor drain.
